It’s possible, but I do remember the story about a man who got a plate that said “ZYKLON B” and drove around with it for several years until somebody who knew what that was reported him.
ETA: Until I saw this link, I didn’t know he’d previously been arrested for racist graffiti.

On the subject of famous-name license plates, I (living and driving in New York City) was once behind a vehicle with the plate “DBRICK” and I am convinced to this day that the driver (or at least the owner) was D’Brickashaw Ferguson, then of the New York Jets.

A software engineer friend has had the plate **DEVNULL**. I’m also friends with the owner of the NH **UNIX** plate that’s somewhat famous in a small group of people.

That reminds me of when a local dealership accidentally started using my home address as the address for Honda. When I got a few titles in the mail, I called the dealership and they just didn’t care, like, at all. So I sat back, amused by the situation, as more and more vehicle titles kept showing up.
It was funny until it wasn’t. I started getting parking tickets all over Wisconsin and Illinois mailed to my house. I tried to clear those up with the individual police departments, which was hit or miss. Then collections letters started showing up because the tickets weren’t getting paid. I got a bit more serious about clearing this up when the repo notices started arriving. I was worried a repo person would eventually show up and grab one of the three Hondas in my driveway without checking the VIN.

My daily commute schedule used to line up where once or twice a week I’d be at a stoplight behind an old red truck with a pirate flag in the back window and a GOONIES license plate. Was always good for a morning smile.

Years ago I put in for a vanity plate DED BRD (dead bird) because I ran bird dogs, and frequently shot for the local hunt tests & field trials. When I got the letter in the mail telling me that had approved my plate, it was shown as DED BRO (dead bro). Considering that I was living in a rather ethnic part of town at the time, I called DMV rather hurriedly to report this mistake. I can still hear the lady laughing when I explained to her that if that’s the plate they were going to send me, it would cause problems. She assured me it was correct in the computer.

I saw a plate the other day that read **MIRALAX**. I continue to be stumped as to why a person would want to have such a plate. My best theory is that a woman named Mira who loves lacrosse (commonly abbreviated as “lax”) drives the car.

New red Corvette: **BKET LST**
Virginia has various theme plates, including one with a horse. I saw “LIKE A” (the horse is at the far right). I assume the driver’s name is Hung.
