A couple days ago here in South Florida I saw a Bentley with Montana plates that read **ALCHMST**.
Left me wondering what sort of dross they used. It was evident they had found a way to turn it into gold.
That was the first Montana plate I’d ever seen in my 10 years here. Then a couple days later I saw another Montana plate on an ordinary white pick-up work truck.

Oregon [just released a new plate design featuring two bees on it](https://www.oregonlive.com/hg/2023/10/oregons-new-license-plate-is-the-bees-knees-and-its-available-soon.html). I’m definitely ordering a set for my car, and for the first time I’m considering getting a custom plate. I want a) a Simpsons reference that b) has to be 6 characters or fewer.
Bort, unfortunately, is already in use.

It only works with Washington state license plates which feature a giant Mt. Rainier centered in the frame, but I just saw a:

drive by me this morning. We have lot of NOAA, Blue Origin, and SpaceX in the area so many candiditates for ownership

Nope. Own them. When a friend passed through Carbondale, I asked him to pick up an SIU sweatshirt with Dawg graphics on it. All the store was offering online at the time were just with _Southern Illinois_ in collegiate lettering.

Would work in Virginia with the “Gadsden” (aka “Don’t Tread On Me”, aka “I want to advertise my redneckitude”) plate. Lots of folks use the snake as an “A”.

In his book, _The Cosmic Connection_, Carl Sagan says that, as a boy, he loved Edgar Rice Burroughs’ Martian novels. As an adult, he wanted to get a license plate that said BARSOOM. But his state would only allow six characters, so he had to settle for PHOBOS.

I was just behind a car with LACTATE as the plate. Maybe they are hoping random people will begin lactating when they see the plate?
