I enjoy hard SF, Gret Egan in particular. I am looking for a specific type of novel, set in the near future where the main character is a computer programmer/engineer but that does not involve the slimy underworld. I guess what I want is cyberpunk without the punk. Newer is better, and available on audio is another plus.

TIA

_Cryptonomicon_, by Neal Stephenson. Be prepared for a lot of World War II cyberpunk without the punk, as well as present day stuff. Present day meaning five minutes into the future from 1999 when the novel was published.

Thanks, I’ll give Cryptonomicon a try.
