Apparently Edison did indeed go for the power naps thing, whereas it seems that Brunel would just work solidly until exhausted, then sleep wherever he happened to be.

In Never Cry Wolf Farley Mowatt talks about adopting the wolves sleeping habits. As I recall, it’s a bunch of short naps for a few hours. Every 15 or so minutes, he’d wake up and readjust, then go back to sleep. Worked OK in the field, but played Hell with his love life.
