For my parents’ 25th anniversary, Mom asked him if he’d dance with her. He said “no way!”
“Oh, c’mon, not one song?”
“You know I can’t dance, never could.”
“Ah, no? How about that one time back in Anaitasuna?”
Dad got all misty-eyed, remembering that first encounter among the two families, when the very-nervous-couple danced as many times as they could find an excuse for, just in order to escape the table; “aaah, yes. _La casita en Canadá_, we must have danced to it twenty times that night. Tell you what, if you can get that song I’ll dance it :D” At their wedding there hadn’t been any dancing.

Hearing a DJ announce that the next dedicated song is La casita en Canadá? Good luck.
Having a tape in the radio/tape player and getting there in time to slam the “record” button? Good reflexes.
Watching the look in your father’s face when you play the tape and you and your brothers announce that you’re refraining from making him dance to it? Oh, honey, that was so good it must’a been a sin.

FTR, that song is so… incredibly… how could I put this… it’s to regular music what Austin Powers is to real spies. It’s so kitschy it goes beyond kitsch. That song was born for school variety shows, with 1st graders dressed as flowers and butterflies. And pine trees, because it’s Canada.

In the interest of my toes, I really don’t think my wedding would have included a father-daughter dance 🙂

My daughter is a bit of a metalhead - so some _Iron Maiden_ maybe

**Bring Your Daughter To The Slaughter** springs to mind.

Maybe not. 😉
I’m not thinking about this for a long time, and **nor is she**

I like the way you think. Now to turn the little one into a metal head. I’ve started with the [metal babies](http://www.metalbabies.com/) stuff.

Former Wedding DJ weighing in.

Thank all of you for not saying "Daddy’s Little Girl or “Butterfly Kisses”.

I like to think nice thoughts about all of you.
My Father-Daughter favorite? - An obscure song from a somewhat lesser known songwriter named [Tia Sillers](http://www.songwriteruniverse.com/sillers.htm) - **If the World Was Mine**

I intend to pick Seseme Street’s Sing to dance to with my son when he gets married. Its what I used to sing while changing their diapers. He probably won’t go for it though.

🙂 I used to sing that to both kids. I love that sappy, silly, lovely Carpenter’s song. It is the only Carpenter’s song I like.

Hey, can we do that? My little girl is 9, about to turn 10. I like your idea. I figured in three years, I need to be practiced with the Bow again. It seems much more personnel than buying and learning to use a gun. 😉

My cousin danced to Kermit singing “The Rainbow Connection” with his mom. His dad (my uncle) was killed when he was about 7 or 8, and he had always sang it to my cousin. That made every single person in the reception hall get teary-eyed.
I’m thinking Ivylad should dance (as best he can, he uses a walker) **Because You Loved Me** by Celine Dion when Ivygirl gets married.
When my cousin got married a few years ago, her best friend (who has an amazing voice) sung that for the father-daughter dance. She was able to tweak the lyrics slightly to make it definitely more about a father than a lover, and it wound up being just perfect. 🙂

(Dammit, I’m tearing up now as I remember it! Curse you, **ivylass**! ;))

I’ve never been particularly interested in getting married, but if I ever do I’ll probably let my dad pick the song. That said, if I knew anyone who could sing well enough I might attempt a repeat of the “Because You Loved Me” thing, and I also like the idea of The Beatles’ “I Will.” Damn, I’m glad my boyfriend isn’t a Doper and can’t see me toying with the idea of wedding songs. _grin_

I don’t know how I’ll be able to make it through the dance. I took my 6 year old to a Daddy-Daughter Dance at her school and started getting misty eyed thinking about that dreaded day. Hopefully, I’ll be stronger by that time. She’ll have left the convent to complete her residency and be approaching 35 so I think I’ll be OK.

Here you go, that song gets me without the **zweisamkeit** story. With the story, it is tough. I would never attempt to use that as the father-daughter dance. I would have no hopes of not tearing up. Actually come to think of it, I would probably have no hope with Sunrise-Sunset. At least with Guinnevere I have a chance.

If I took my newly married daughter in arms to dance with her, and suddenly a recording of **" One Of These Things Is Not Like The Other"** came on, she would burst out in laughter.

Or murder me.

Whichever.

😃

What would I choose? Something sweet and sad like “Vienna” by Billy Joel. 🙂

" Slow down, you crazy child, you’re so romantic for a juevnile"…

For me, if I ever marry, it will be Dan Fogelberg’s **Leader Of the Band**. You see, Dad was a brass band musician in his day, as was Grandad before him. (Has anyone here heard of the Besses o’ the Barn?) I take after him most, and I inherited his love of music. Yes, _Brassed Off_ makes me teary-eyed, too.

My other choice for pure embarrassment is the Tigger song…you know “The wonderful thing about Tiggers is Tiggers are a wonderful thing…” When he first came home he’d hear that song and start jumping - we thought it was hilarious.

But Sing actually is a sweet song.

Oldest daughter: **Cosmic Thing** by B-52s
I won’t have to say anything at all, she’ll pick it. And as this will be at least 7 years from now (_gasp_ how did it creep up that fast!) we had best make sure someone is on hand with the defibrulator for daddy.

Youngest daughter: Too soon for specifics, but at age 7 she has already adopted my unholy affinity for hot, slow blues. She worships BB King. I will be very afraid.

Ahh, that’s the song that I’ve always thought I’d want to sing/play at my father’s funeral. (How odd that I’ve thought more about that than the possibility of my wedding. :)) Anyway, Dad wasn’t a brass band musician but he has been a church organist and choir director since well before I was born, and I owe much of my piano-playing and singing abilities to him and his genes. That song always makes me think of him.
