He must have done it without cheating, since he said the Konami code wrong.
I think we should all chip in and buy you a new irony meter.
Nope. He actually said he wanted to kill peasant and was corrected by the owner. Pay attention.
Exactly, i got the point of the joke, but to me it just was not funny, as far as the peasant/pheasant misunderstanding goes, i guess my annoyance at the irresponsible firearm handling overshadowed what Nate was saying…
i think i made my point, so lets let this part of the discussion fade…
The irresponsible firearm handling was part of the point – especially when he “hit” the sound guy. Not only were they mocking canned hunts, but they were also mocking the clearly irresponsible firearm handling Cheney did.
If you’re going to be mad at them for that, you might as well be mad at all the actors in movies who’ve ever aimed guns at other actors, since you shouldn’t point a gun at anything you don’t intend to destroy.
I was cringing at the firearm conduct as well.
Hanging out the side of a moving vehicle with a (loaded?) shotgun pointed upwards? I was agast.
It really did a good job of pointing out that not only are the hunts a joke, but their practices regarding firearms are a joke as well.
Honestly, what responsible person would give a gun to Nate Cordry? But I guess as long as the cheque didn’t bounce they were fine with him flinging around a weapon.
I’m also very glad they didn’t shy away from showing the bird being shot. It would have been easy to cut to a sound effect, but they really brought their point home. Cannned hunts are analogous to paying to kill a cow with a sledgehammer so you can have a bunch of steaks at the bottom of your freezer for a few years.
Why would you possibily need to shoot 70 bird in one day?
Besides, the code doesn’t give you unlimited ammo. All guns in contra have unlimited ammo. The code gives something like 50 lives per player.
I thought the cheat codes bit was funny. Although not a firearms user myself, I was also a bit uncomfortable with Nate Cordry’s weapon-handling technique, although not to the point that it sucked all of the funny out of the segment for me. Reading this thread, however, does cause me to wonder about a few things.
I understand that there are Dopers who have been on canned hunts. I’m wondering if any of them would be able to comment on whether a guide would have tolerated the unsafe practices displayed in the segment. Wouldn’t a guide have issued at least a couple of warnings, maybe insisted on heading back to a training center for a safety refresher? The guide in this segment doesn’t appear to have had any problem with these antics. Is it likely he was playing along with the gag, or do they just have a somewhat laissez faire approach to customer safety issues?
