(Let me start off by saying that I asked for and received permission in advance from the mods to post this thread.) [ul][li]Are you in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, or willing to travel there?[/li][li]Do you think music and fun are good?[/li][li]Do you think homelessness and hunger are bad?[/li][li]Are you looking for a chance to dress up and have a good time while supporting a good cause?[/li][li]Have you always wanted to meet **Chef Troy** in person? (okay, if not, this one isn’t a deal-breaker.)[/ul][/li] Well, have I got the party for YOU! On **Sunday, October 23, from 5:00 to 9:30 p.m.** , I am going to be serving as the Master of Ceremonies for a charity fundraiser benefiting [Good Samaritans of Garland](http://GoodSamaritansOfGarland.org/Party), a group that helps prevent homelessness and hunger among the working poor in the northeast Dallas area. The event, **Step Back In Time and Bring THE END to Hunger,** will be held at the historic [Texas Theatre](http://thetexastheatre.com) (that’s the theater where Lee Harvey Oswald was captured after shooting JFK). The recently restored theater is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year; in honor of that milestone, our event will feature an evening of costumed fun. I personally plan to come dressed as Signor Ferrari, Sydney Greenstreet’s character from _Casablanca_. Just look at some of the fun that’s going to be on offer at this party: [ul][li]Musical guests include fabulous crooner [Ricki Derek](http://www.rickiderek.com), the swinging tunes of [The Brehms Band](http://www.thebrehmsband.com), and chanteuse Lainey Bernstein (accompanied on the piano by John Rainone as Chico Marx!)[/li][li]In between the live acts, Dallas’s own [Mark Ridlen](http://djdeluxe.com/) (aka DJ Mr. Rid) will be spinning tunes and keeping the party rolling.[/li][li]There will also be live drawing, face painting, a screening of Cary Grant’s first film _This Is the Night_, and more![/ul][/li] I really want to see as many Dopers as possible at this party. I’m on my way to the Texas Theatre to do a walk-through with the event’s organizers and thought I’d bump this thread for anyone who might not have seen it. You have one week to get your costumes together, folks! (Not that you HAVE to wear a costume – in fact the charity would prefer that you came as yourselves and paid the higher entrance fee, but _I_ want you to come in costume so the party’s more fun.) Again, if any of you are coming, would you please please post in here and tell me? C’mon, **Lynn Bodoni** , it’s payback time for all that great Cajun food I fed you that time. ---

Thanks for the invite, but I made the mistake of choosing that weekend for my flight instructor refresher clinic. The two-year lifespan of my rating is about to run out, and letting that happen can be expensive. (other CFIs can back me up on this) 🙂 I really can’t miss this class. Sorry to miss the gathering. I’ve only met one DFW doper and would like to encounter more. Maybe next time. pullin ---

Well, y’all missed a really fun evening, that’s all I have to say! **Chef Troy** , thanks for bringing this to our notice–it was spectacular! I’m sorry I neglected to introduce myself while I was there, but I’m _sure_ you’ll remember me–I was escorting the lovely lady in the Liza Minelli costume who won the second set of film festival coupons. You know, the one that provoked the ‘wardrobe malfunction’? 😃 ---
