Because it will. You need to experience the total, complete depression of having the Sox blow another one, in some new and exciting way. As much as I want them to win (and I have promised my wife jewelry if they do), I am sure, deep in my heart, that the Yankees will find a way to pull it out. Welcome to Doom-Time. I _care_ about baseball. Wow. Prior to this postseason, I’d watched exactly three complete games. Two were during the Sammy-McGwire home run race, when _everyone_ was watching. One was two years ago when I was hanging out with some friends who were Braves fans and I was far too drunk to complain when they changed the channel. I even wore a rally hat. This year, though, my hatred of the Yankees has me pulling as hard for the Red Sox as I did for Damon Hill at Suzuka in 1994. As hard as I pulled for Everton against Man. U. when the Dogs of War won the FA Cup. As hard as I pulled for England every time we went to penalties against Germany. As hard as I pulled for the Buccaneers in the Super Bowl. I swear, if they win tonight I will be sporting a Sox jersey for the next week, and I don’t care what anyone says about the bandwagon. ---
