Dammit. I bought a boat.

As I said, I need a keeper.

I went to Blaine Marine today. They have an ancient (1960s or early-1970s) long-shaft Johnson 20 hp in good running condition for $199. It has a shaft extension on it, so it might be able to be shortened. The mid-section can be removed, but the drive shaft is an issue. If it has a coupled extension, then the shaft extension can be removed. Otherwise, it will need a new (short) shaft. The guy at the shop said I’d be okay with a long-shaft. He said that a lot of people use outboards on their sailboats, and also use them on their dinghies. There’s no reason why I couldn’t use the ol’ Johnson; I’d just have to be more aware of the water depth. It uses pre-mix though, which is a pain.

HAHAHAHAHA!

Or, since I have the Beavis and Butt-head thread opened, too…

Huh huh huh huh huh huh! He said “long shaft Johnson”!

The funniest definition of being a boat owner, to which a few friends of mine can attest: Standing in an ice-cold shower, ripping up hundred dollar bills.
