# Damn it, Luke! You Were Supposed to Use the Force!

Okay, so some [uber-dorks](http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/star-wars/rocketpowered-21foot-long-xwing-model-actually-flies-updated-new-pics-show-it-even-has-builtin-r2d2-305976.php) thought that not only would it be cool to build a near full-size model of an X-Wing from _Star Wars_, but it’d be just the cat’s whiskers to slap some rocket engines on it, and some remote control units as well.

I’m disappointed that they were miserable failures, but I gotta say, it must have been pretty danged cool to watch them blow apart like that.

When I saw the article about it being built, last week, I told my friend “It’s not gonna fly, it’s gonna explode.” But he had more confidence in it.

I would call it a design failure. The rockets were clearly not acting on the center of gravity of the craft. That explains the arc it took. Then, as it turned, something between aerodynamic forces on the body, the materials used to assemble it, and the fact that they lit 4 rockets under it, caused it to lose structural integrity.
Looked like fun, though. And I thought I was a geek.
