Throw him the idol and he’ll throw you the whip.
Can you give the reasons why? In this thread there’s nothing but scorn and bad words for the man. I’d like to hear your reasons for supporting him.
I am not only (just bought a house here recently), an Ohio voter, but I am an Ohio Librarian.
Blackwell proposed and supported the TEL amendment, which in the interest of cutting taxes (and who wouldn't want to do that), would have limited funding increases to local governments that would have resulted in cuts of funding to police, fire, schools, and yes, libraries.
Anyone who serves in the administration of someone like Taft, who tried to shut down 60% of the public libraries in Ohio, is not starting out on a good footing with me.
Blackwell is one of those people who believes that as long as you get the short term, feel good, effect of cutting taxes, the long term effect on the communities caused by cutting the services that those taxes pay for, is not his problem. It is however, the problem of the people in those communities.
It also will not, as Blackwell tries to maintain, attract business into Ohio. Few businesses want to re-locate in a community where fire, police, and education are sub-standard.
Black, white, or klingon, there is no chance that I would vote for Blackwell. I want to keep my job, and I want my neighbors to keep theirs.
I didn’t even know Blackwell is black and I ain’t gonna vote for him.
His auto-dailer called me last night and asked me some really sneaky questions. Like “do you believe in the separation of church and state?” then played a clip of Strickland talking about the bible or something and then asked “NOW do you think you want to vote for Strickland?”
I dunno, dude. But so far Strickland hasn’t interrupted my dinner.
It’s true that Blackwell is the worst choice on purely political grounds. I would never vote for him in a million years because of his platform. It’s bad for Ohio and really just bad for everyone.
My ire was raised because I have actually heard from some Republicans and other conservatives that if he were not black they would vote for him. But since he is black, they are voting for the white candidate and in this case a Democrat. Leave it to Ohio Conservatives to take stupidity to unequaled heights of irony and pure idiocy. I have a feeling this isn’t an isolated thought process and bespeaks of the Conservative mindset all over America.
Because he wants to take power and money away from government. That is a good thing in my book.
Blackwell will lose partly because of his connection to Taft’s political scandals, but mostly because he is so extreme. Ohio is a moderate state that nearly always votes for the more moderate candidate. This election Ohioans have a choice between Blackwell, who does not support abortion even in cases of rape and when the mother’s life is in danger, and has written a book about completely abolishing welfare, and Ted Strickland, a moderate Democrat.
It has nothing to do with the fact that Blackwell is black and anyone who says it does doesn’t know much about Ohio.
Um. Aren’t secretarys of state in charge of elections pretty much across the land? and aren’t secretarys of state elected offices? so, 'twould appear to be true that unless a current secretary of state doesn’t run for any office (including re-election to the same one), that at some point, we’d kinda expect the secretary of state to be in charge of an election they, themselves were trying to win (again)?
Damn right it should be abolished.
By becoming powerful in the government??? BRILLIANT!!
Blackwell might be a Dominionist, and he’s definitely hand-in-hand with Rod Parsley. Throw in Coingate, the Diebold stupidity, the voter registration crap, his views on abortion, and well, any other damned thing you can mention and he’s horrifying.
Yes. Brilliant.
He wants the power and money in the government to be under the control of the Christian religion.
NOt just the Christian religion, but the true version of the Christian religion.
True. But as for me, which version doesn’t much matter.
Cite?
This sort of crap is just the reason I left the sweet Mad River Valley while still in my youth and came out to the prairie where we decide elections on important issues, like which guy is more folksy.
Crafter, you’ve spent too much time talking to the old guys at McAlexander’s Pool Hall.
Try this one
Saying Blackwell wants to establish a theocracy would not be true; saying he’s strongly supported by Christian fundementalists does seem to be true.
