I went to the IGN message board regarding this, and there is a very funny dialogue going on between the users there.
Something like “I’m not gonna try it, YOU try it!” “I’m not gonna try it…Let’s get Mikey!”
Square wants to make GBA games, and gamers want Square to make GBA games (a new “traditional” FF3/6 style Final Fantasy? Count me in), but Nintendo is snubbing them because they have bad history. It’s a long story but basically there was some bad blood in the SNES/Genesis days when Nintendo screwed Square over a few times (Square wanted to use a bigger cartridge for one of their RPGs (one of the Romancing Saga games, I think) and Nintendo told them they couldn’t, but then turned around and let Capcom use a bigger cartridge for one of their Breath of Fire games), and Square ditched the N64 (which was basically being built for FF7 at the time) for the PSX because the N64 used cartridges (and I imagine Square was a little peeved anyway)…This made Nintendo unhappy, and now Square/Nintendo have too much bad blood between them.
It sucks, but I figure Nintendo will come around. A lot of people would buy GBAs purely for the POSSIBILITY of a new Square RPG. One of the Nintendo QA people hinted that they’re “working on it” so to speak, but didn’t say anything else…I figure it’s a personal feud up at the top, and when they retire (or die…they’re all pretty old right now I think) or what have you, the next generation of people in charge will ditch the bad past and patch things up. I’m hoping, anyway…
If you want a new conspiracy theory to think about…Nintendo will put out separate light accessories you have to buy. If you had a contrast switch, you probably wouldn’t need the lights, heh…I don’t know why they did that though…I imagine it has something to do with the amount of colors in the screen now compared to the GBC. What works with 16 colors just won’t work the same as with zillions of them, I would imagine.
Tsugumo (not going to mess with the contrast control because I just know I’ll screw it up and I’d rather fork over $10 or something for a light I can use in the dark instead)
Thanks for the info. I hope an agreement can be reached, but I know it will never happen. An FF3-type game for the GBA would be so awesome.
I also don’t recommend messing with the screw in the back. Just get a light, they really aren’t that expensive or anything, or just turn on an overhead light. Those seem to help me.
“A few examples;
the freakin’ thing has no ac adapter port.”
Oh, hee hee. I just went to Electronics Boutique today, you can get the AC Adapter for it which has the adapter & an adapter to adapt the GBA for a paltry $10.00 altogether.
Exactly, and I bet that the AC adapter that came with it was exactly similiar to the old GBC adapter (that is if you have one) in voltage and current rating. If they, Nintendo, would have included the AC adapter port on the GBA I wouldn’t have had to buy the rechargeable battery pack and another AC adapter. I could have just used the adapter I had previously purchased a few years back.
I wonder what their official explination for the Missing AC adaptor is. I’d bet it would have something to do with saving space or somesuch B.S.
This isn’t the first time Nintendo (or any gaming company for that matter) has done this either. Every time you buy a console, you have to buy all new accessories. This is starting to make me sick. I can’t afford it
That reminds me of the Virtual Boy. It used 6AA batts, but you could use an optional AC adaptor. The thing is, it used a standard SNES adaptor. However, you had to buy a “AC adaptor tap” to connect the SNES AC adaptor to the VB. Dammit, I already had a SNES adaptor, why should I be forced to buy another?
Well, at least the SNES, N64, and Gamecube can all use the same A/V cables. The PS2 and PSX also use the same cables. As for Sega, they just have to be different. Every time they release a system, it has a completely new A/V output. Absoultely evil.
