run for the roses is a fantastic song. it kept running through my mind when barbaro died in january. many of his songs have a timeless and heart tugging quality. ---

Part of the reason I try to watch the Triple Crown races every year is because they always play Run for the Roses. It gets me a little verklempt. I wonder how many people have enjoyed his songs but never knew who he was? He was one of those performers where you tend to remember the music more than the performer because he wasn’t this huge personality, he was pretty much all about the music.
