Well, I would be a little more critical of his putting “friends” in quotes if I hadn’t then heard about the responses of our friends in Norway and Italy, which boil down to “we’re behind you 100%, unless you mean committing troops, in which case we’re not.” Yeah, you’re behind us – way, way behind us; it’s harder to get shot that way. In constrast is the response from Canada. It seems like something or other brings me to tears at least once a day these days, and yesterday it was the Canadian Defense Minister, who unequivocally reiterated that Canada stands with the United States 100%. He said, in essence, “Canada is not an isolationist or pacifist country. There are Canadians buried across Europe who fought and died in the wars. Terrorism must be stopped and we will do our part to stop it.” Asked if that extended to the commitment of ground troops if necessary, he said, simply and firmly, “Yes.” God bless Canada, eh? ---

Unless you are suggesting Wildest Bill was involved in the attack on the World Trade Center - and you know, I somehow doubt he was, though if he was you should probably contact the FBI - there’s absolutely no connection whatsoever between that and this rant. Furthermore, if you can’t tell the difference between a dead serious accusation that another person is an “inhuman monster” and a funny rant about a crappy anchorman, I would further submit that you’re a fucking idiot. I might add that manhattan had clearly reasoned, if emotional, justification for his comments concerning Wildest Bill. You, on the other hand, have people condemning Dan Rather for having the gall to be emotionally affected by the murder of 5,000 people. Go fuck yourself, indeed. ---

Although the little speech about the lyrics in “America” was very melodramatic. Maybe he should move to Hollywood and produce movies. This is the fruitcake who is always running around promoting himself instead of just reporting the news. As I wrote earlier in this thread about what he said in 1993 about JFK’s assassination, how we would probably “never know what really happened” and how then a REAL journalist like Gerald Posner investigated it and wrote a book about what did really happen that day. Rather would rather (no pun intended) just host a show about the assassination bringing up more rumors with no evidence whatsover so he can help CBS get big ratings and continue to make his 2 million a year (or more) while they are firing people from the news division to cut costs. Jennings and Brokaw are no better (good looking celebrities for ratings), but Rather is fucking nuts! Wait till they pull out the film of him out when he went to Afganistan around 1980 to report on the Russian war with the Afgans. He is wearing a turban and breathlessly saying how dangerous it is. If you saw it in a movie, you’d laugh your ass off. You’ll laugh your ass off anyway. Bring back Walter Cronkite!!! ---

As for the Canada/USA thing… Usually us up here in the Great North _ahem_ do have resentment towards the US, but it is very much what has already been mentioned, the younger brother, friendly resentment.
