OMG Jlo made me laugh! She backs up to the end of the stage sticks her butt out as if to poot, then jiggles her butt cheeks - I bet Sheila E thought she looked a damn fool. Come on with the bootyquakes, nothing sexy going on there, it’s interesting and athletic I suppose but not sexy or alluring imo. ---

It’s HARD to do - we learned isolation in my belly dancing classes but I never mastered it. I am in awe of women who can do this. ---

It doesn’t do anything for me but, like many forms of dance, it is probably not as easy as it looks and is best appreciated by those that have tried dancing. I also don’t get anything out ballet dances balancing on their tip-toes or by Flamenco dancers clacking their heels but I can appreciate that it is a difficult skill. ---

I have a fine appreciation for asses (of both sexes) and hips (mostly women), but the butt shake thing just makes me laugh. It sort of reminds me of those very old commercials advertising that machine with the jiggling waist belt that was supposed to help you lose weight without exercise. Human bodies should not vibrate. It’s not sexy. 😃 On the other hand, I find belly dancing sexy as hell, mainly _because_ it’s all about the hips and ass. (I’ve even seen male belly dancers perform and yep, still sexy. Bootilicious dancers? Still sexy! !!) So, in conclusion, I guess for me, sexy = sensual, and not fucking machine pistoning. ---

(Any “dance” that just one or a series of disconnected moves doesn’t impress me much. Flow is important.) ---

I’m a white girl who’s totally envious of women who can do a booty shake. I’m a big woman but I am built like a tree with no hips and no ass. I dunno, I’m a straight guy, who certainly enjoys watching attractive women dance, AND I consider myself to be a butt man. But I gotta agree with the OP… this particular movement has always looked more silly to me than sexy. I’m glad I’m not alone. ---

Calling it “butt convulsion” kinda takes the shine off of it. I know that in New Orleans, there are what are called “bounce clubs”, where “bounce” music is played, women bend over, flip their dresses up, and shake their booties while men ogle them. Seems pointless to me. ---

To mangle one of my favorite Whedonisms…with this move, the subtext is rapidly becoming text. The subliminal is not so sub. I like sexy dancing, but I don’t like sex dancing. As others have said - as part of a dance, it can be hot. If all we’re looking at is a butt so perfectly humping that I can’t help but visualize a dildo beneath it, I’m turned off. ---
