Well, I wouldn’t say it was never mentioned. It was referenced in an ironic sort of way when they had him dance to Katy Perry’s “I Kissed a Girl.” Still, you’re right, other than that they didn’t make a big deal of it.

How much of the fan voting is people who are voting for the best dancer and how much of it is celeb.s bringing an established fan base to the show?

> What was that between Mark and Val, other than strange and rather ego-stroking for the two boys? I must say, though, that Chmerkovskiy 2.0 is quite good looking.

Yes, yes he is.

Mark’s musical aspirations don’t come across well on the show. Nor do his attempts to present himself as “dark” or “cool.”

And as much as I love watching Jonathan and Anna dance together, that may have been the worst rendition of “Hallelujah” I’ve ever heard, including versions sung at karaoke by people barely sober enough to read the words.

The scoring seemed way over inflated this week. Giving out that many 8’s sends the wrong message. The dancers weren’t that evenly matched.

Cho needed to go. Watching her dance is painful.

Kyle is starting to get annoying. I get the feeling he’s putting us on. There’s a joke somewhere that we aren’t in on. The chemistry with Lacey is way off. She seems very annoyed with his antics. Much like a big sister and brat brother. WTF is Lacey going to do when they have a romantic dance? She may barf all over her dance shoes.

Michael Bolton was filling in for Susan Boyle with only 24 hours notice. Jonathan and Anna had spent a week rehearsing a dance for “Hallelujah”. Michael was nice to sing it for them. I’m not sure if he had ever performed that song before. I don’t think his voice fits “Hallelujah” at all. But, the show went on. 😉

They had that on _Entertainment Tonight_ the other night. Esp. weird since I remember that video from the time. Who’da thunk at the time that I’d end up addicted to a show featuring one of the backup dancers 30 years later?

His performance was just really cheesy. He was mouthing the words to “Sexbomb,” head tilted back, eyes closed, while pulling off his jacket, for example. And while I wouldn’t go as far as saying his routine that week was as bad as Cho’s, it still really sucked.

I understand him filling in last minute and everything, but I swear on all that is holy, that version was horrible and strained and makes me regret ever liking that song.

Gaaah. HATE these stupid gimmick weeks. Could barely see the dancers through the mountans of cheese. This contest is tough enough without having to throw in some ludicrous play-acting that as often as not doesn’t even work. Had to skim through Sitty and Fox’s routines.

Quick comments on what I saw (will defer on power rankings):

Jennifer Gray - Looked great, as always. Came out flying and hasn’t lost a step since. The judges appear to be lowballing her, which means she’s a BIG favorite.
Florence Henderson - Got a dance she could handle without too much trouble and survives another week. She’s been game but looks to be living on borrowed time.
Kurt Warner - Nuthin’ new here. Okay waltz; his lack of agility is starting to show.
Bristol Palin - Ugh…do _not_ need preachy horseplop on my reality TV, thank you very much. She’s shown a great attitude and plenty of effort. What she HASN’T shown is the ability to do anything beyond slow 'n tentative. Soon we see just how powerful the right wing voting bloc really is (and how much they care about an elegant art form that requires lots of hard work).
Brandy - STOP…SOLOING. Other than that, looking pretty good.
Audrina Partridge - Now officially a favorite. RPC nailed it, she’s has the body that will bring out voters in droves, and this week she looked great out there.
Kyle Massey - At this point, it looks like he’s playing to not lose. He just doesn’t have the coordination of the contenders, and before long stamina is going to become a gigantic albatross as well, and he knows it. He looked awkward at times with what’s supposed to be a very simple, fundamental dance.
Situation/Fox - Eh. See previous comments. _Very_ weird song choice for Sitty.

As for Margaret Cho, her biggest failing was running out of gas near the end of the routine, and this week it became clear that this was just not going to improve. It was basically her or Henderson, and no way were the voters going to pick a bulky commedienne with lots of tattoos over a distinguished stage actress.

The Situation was horrible last night. The judges were right to trash him like that. Bristol is OK, but she doesn’t have the talent to win. I think Situation is going to go tonight and, barring any injuries, Bristol next week.

I agree with Carrie Ann; what Corky and Florence did was kind of scary. I shouldn’t have to be watching TV and think ‘My God, did he just bite her ASS?’ It also couldn’t make up its mind as to whether it was being funny or serious. There were parts that looked reasonably good. There were parts that looked deliberately bad. It was strange. I’ve actually reach the point where I’d rather watch Bristol Palin than Florence, and if you know me at all, you know that’s extreme.

I feel kind of sorry for both the Situation and Bristol. Both look like good, obedient children doing exactly what their teacher is telling them to do. In the Situation’s case, it actually looks as if he can’t hear the music, or kind of like a dancing horse or bear; there’s just no connection between the music and what he’s doing. In Bristol’s case, she clearly hears and follows the music, but she just seems too vacant to understand what she’s doing. Considering she is known for two things only (being the child of her mother and getting knocked up while in high school, both things associated with, well, reproduction), you’d think she’d have a little more grasp of the concept of passion.

Maks appears to have let his ego outgrow his teaching ability. He doesn’t even seem to be trying to teach anymore, just bully. He’s taken a celebrity who Derek or Tony or even Mark would have made into a star and verbally beaten her into mediocrity.

Once again, the music plays favorites. Had Audrina had the same music as Jennifer, she would have gotten Jennifer’s scores, IMO. As it was, Tony and Audrina had to dance despite the music rather than with it. Seriously, _Don’t You Want Somebody to Love_??? If they felt the need to hit psychadelic Jefferson Airplane, they should have gone to an instrumental _White Rabbit_ (obviously DwtS is not ready for the lyrics), which works very well as a tango. The song they used does not. And Tom said something last night about an upcoming Rock n’ Roll themed episode with Tangos and Pasos. That will be a nightmare. Both Tango and Paso, IMHO, require distinctly Latin music and rarely work without.

Kyle did better than I expected with the rumba.

Oh, that had me snarling at the TV. I wish they’d not stray so far from traditional music for the latin dances. Or if they felt they had to, not gift one celeb with the perfect music and burden the rest with something that has the pros scratching their heads trying to figure out how to make it work.

And did anyone else notice Bristol’s face during the opening lineup? I swear she was thinking, “It’s that dream again. I’m on TV, millions of people are watching me, and _I forgot to put on my pants_ ”

Both of the Ballases gave disturbing performances yesterday. I don’t want to see that. That family seems to have taste issues.

Kurt & Anna were nice, but I thought they misinterpreted the music. Brandy did the best job I think she’s done this season. Rick & Cheryl were kind of blah for a tango. The costume designers still hate Lacey (that ribbon tutu was a horrible mistake for anything that’s supposed to be sexy or romantic or not a ballet recital) but they ok. The Situation is trying - and I give him credit for that. And because of them I now know that “Poker Face” sampled the Eurythmics “Sweet Dreams.” So, it was educational. Jennifer & Derek go without saying. I’ve only seen Audrina before on “The Soup” where she has no personality and was surprised when she showed a tiny bit during the clip package. Then it all went away during the dance (admittedly the music didn’t help), and she didn’t point her toes, which isn’t a big deal compared to some of the other dancers, but hurt the look of the dance for her.

All right, just one question. If Lacey could throw out a song (and she did), why couldn’t Audrina & Tony have thrown their song across the room and demanded another one?

At first I thought, well, she was #1 on the board last week, so maybe this was a handicap.

But…but Jennifer was second! And she got the ideal tango music.

Yesterday’s video bit made me wonder if Maks and Brandy aren’t going for a story arc in their relationship videos. He’ll “awaken” her sensual side, get her to love again while she “tames” the brute. The video between those two comes off as manipulative.

Best elimination yet. I’m so glad that guy is gone. Especially after the tantrum he threw back stage. He didn’t even thank his dance dance partner.
