Dancing with the Stars -- DWTS -- Spring 2012

Just an added edit, the Motown Marathon Dance occurs on Monday rather than Tuesday. It’s still a dance for points to add to scores.

I can’t recall ever being this excited to see dwts. How did they ever pull something like this off? I’ve heard for certain Smokey Robinson and the Temptations will be on live performing as the celebrities dance. Two of the bigger acts in Motown history on this show.

I’m sure other acts are booked too. Normally Gladys would have been booked to perform. Its almost a shame that she’s dancing instead of singing.

Motown is dance music. This episode tonight tonight should be among the best they’ve ever done.

Same here. For once this show actually verges on being seriously cool. Certainly if I were a contestant, getting the chance to dance with Smokey Robinson, Martha Reeves or the Temptin’ Temptations behind me would be the event of a lifetime.

Oh, and the Temps’ outfits are truly something to behold.

Don’t forget to watch 20/20 in castle’s time slot. They are going behind the scenes and showing us how DTWS is made.

It’s a shame they didn’t have Gladys sing. She danced first and it would have been really easy to let her perform later for one of the celebrity dancers. Gladys is currently touring every week and already has her songs well rehearsed. One quick rehearsal for camera blocking, earlier today was all she needed to perform.

Gladys looked 20 years younger tonight. It reminded me of her I saw her in the early 80’s. She’s lost some weight dancing and it’s taken years off her.

I’m a big fan of Katherine. But, I thought she was over scored. Her arm movements seemed hesitant and there’s was no snap to them. Where was the Welsh Wiggler tonight? I was expecting a lot of shimmy from her top. She’s got plenty to shake and she had the girls out for the occasion. I was expecting the judges to give her three 8’s.

You would think that the Temps choreography would be tighter, after 50 years of practice. ( actually, I think all the original Temptations are dead.)

Well, that was fun, although I’m not sure there was anything from the contestants that I’d miss from an all-time highlights reel.

I agreed with the judges that Katherine and Jaleel had the best set dances, would place Maria and Donald in the second tier, considered William a bit overscored and Roshon a bit underscored, and put Melissa and Gladys at the bottom, sadly in the latter case considering tonight’s theme.

The dance marathon results were a bit strange, with Maria getting booted second for no obvious reason and William second to last, despite his seeming to spend much of his dance time lunging across the stage. I’m finding it more and more difficult to avoid thinking the fix is in here, in some fashion or other. I do hope that’s not the case and I’m open to being told I’m all wet, if I’m all wet on this.

The behind the scenes show was not entirely horrible, as fluff pieces go, and it was interesting to see a bit of the naked career calculation that went into some of the celeb’s choices to appear on the show.

Entertaining show. Do you think Motown good will be enough to keep Gladys around for another week, or is she heading home?

Gladys needs to go home. I adore her. She is one of my top 5 singers of all time. But she’s just not dancing at the same level as the others.

Wasn’t it interesting last night when Jaleel did was joking around doing a parody of a ballroom dancer and Kym went “AAACK! YES! DO THAT!”?

Results are in:

Gladys is goin’ home; Roshon stays.

When it was announced that the bottom two would be doing a jive, it seemed like it would be no contest, but that, interestingly, turned out not to be the case.

Gah! Dammit! Spoilers aren’t hidden in mail feeds. I tried not to see it but it popped up in my viewer. I’m on the West Coast. Damn it all! I didn’t want it to be spoiled!

I’m not sure about that – I got the impression that Carrie Anne gave a sympathy vote to make sure it wasn’t a shut-out. The person who went home clearly got outdanced in that challenge.

A darn shame. Another person with a great attitude gone. She really made this season special for me.

She made it to the halfway point, which, for a woman her age who didn’t get the Corky Balas velvet gloves treatment, is pretty darned good.

Roshon’s been bottom two each of the last two weeks – is he out next?

It surprises me that Melissa and William are doing better in the standings than Roshon, because Roshon is the better dancer. He came across cocky in the first ep, sure, but he has buckled down and learned the dances, imho. He adds his own flair to them, but aren’t the teams supposed to do that?

Mark Ballas is TV unattractive, and those hats don’t help him! :stuck_out_tongue:

I agree, NoClueBoy. The judges have been ridiculously hard on Roshon compared to the rest, and I don’t understand it. He has both precision and grace.

He looked like Triumph the Insult Comic Dog in this week’s getup.

It seemed particularly unfair that he did exactly what Chelsie asked him to – big, precise movements – then got dinged by Len for exaggeration.

I think he’s an annoying little twerp, but he is, indeed, a good dancer.

Gladys left at the right time. She joined dwts to have fun and enjoy the experience. She never took the competition or the judging to seriously. She mentioned several times in the On the Red Carpet (OTRC) interviews that the judges comments didn’t sting. Tristan was always so kind and supportive to Gladys. I think Gladys has a great attitude for anyone that steps out and tries something new. Give it your best shot, but don’t get too upset if you don’t get instant success. You aren’t going to be good at everything you try.

From here forward the show gets more serious and ten times more competitive. The celebrities that are remaining have shown some talent dancing and they’ll have to work even harder.

Gladys and Tristan exit interview. She’s busy touring and working on an album. Its amazing she found any time to rehearse for dwts.

Flare…do you mean his legs that look like they aren’t attached to his body? He has an extremely awkward style to his dancing. I understand why he’s not getting the marks. Plus nobody is voting for him.
