I did give a reason for my vote: Plumpudding has been lurking. Now, based on his approach to the previous game, that may very well change, and in that case I may change my vote.

With the majority rule, and no hammer rule, there’s no reason to discourage people from voting on weak grounds. We’re not going to accidentally lynch someone under these rules.

Since a majority is needed to lynch, if scum have 50%, they can guarantee no lynch that Day. Then, at Night, they kill a townie, giving them an outright majority.

This is assuming everyone is vanilla, of course. Certain power roles might cause the Nightkill to fail, giving Town another chance. Ultimately, we have to trust our game master to determine when victory or defeat has become inevitable.

When I said they were “out for me” I didn’t mean they were out to get me, I meant they were off my list of immediate suspects.

Between Mosier and Astral’s posts it becomes obvious that mislynching is about the worst thing we can do. Do we really NEED to lynch on Day 1?

Good morning all!

I see activities have steadily been commencing while I was away. Good to see that.

I will check back later this morning before I head to work and also post an up to date vote count.

Play on, players!

Flimsy speculation indeed. Such a system would skew in favour of scum \*\*or \*\*potentially make it obvious who’s scum. I don’t think a mod would do that and I notice **Dante G** has already confirmed not doing it that way. Your flimsy speculation has been debunked by the mod, **Mosier**. Why are you keeping your vote on **Suburban Plankton**?

> [@Mosier](#):
>
> Obviously I have no evidence of this, because nobody has any evidence of anything this early. But if I’m wrong, you’ll have a pretty good suspicion that I’m scum and you can just lynch me day 2, for a better town/scum ratio than we have now.

This is strange. If you’re town, why set yourself up as a target based on a flimsy vote? Why do that as scum?

> [@Prof.Pepperwinkle](#):
>
> So, Mosier and Astral are out for me because **I hunt lurkers** [Snippety snip]

I think outright lurking will be a bit harder this game, with such short days. With that said, I don’t think you should automatically assume active players are town. this is not meant as a defense of lurking, by the way.

> [@Prof.Pepperwinkle](#):
>
> Plum will undoubtedly make up for it, and, besides, he’s in a far different time zone.

I hope I will. Some people’s lurking is someone else’s beauty sleep. I’m only about four and a half hours away though(assuming \*\*Dante \*\*meant EST, not EDT, could we get a clarification on that?), just so you know.

OOG: I’ve started school again and while having a slow start, I’ve involved myself in a bit of department “politics”… It is quite tiring and sometimes very dissapointing, mostly because I have to manouver around and argue with students, while aslo reporting, arguing and satisfying the heads of my teachers. I do this knowing I’ll most likely never get to see much change myself. I did promise to be active in this game beforehand, and I do plan to keep that promise, but I don’t think I have time for my gatling gun accuser style of the last game.

To expand upon why I think it’s better to lynch, even if it’s a mislynch:

> [@Dante\_G](#):
>
> On that note, Plum … yes, my old group very rarely, if ever, lynched on the first day. To us it allowed for all players to get a chance to play past a Day phase. We felt it would be discouraging if for example, you had an ability of some significance and you were not able use it once because you were already dead before Night 1. **We had a couple times where Day 1 was no lynch and then Night 1 had no kills because the Scum got their Kill blocked or stopped by a Protector role.**
>
> But like I said, that’s just how I was exposed to the game. I know different boards play differently.

Not lynching would be to postpone getting any information via voting. A nighkill only gives us the role of whoever was killed, or as in the example bolded above, a protector getting knowledge of who scum might suspect as a power. But that could also just be the result of a coin toss, or who’s been most active. We don’t even know if we have a protector. If we lynch, we will see who voted who and for which reasons, plus whatever may happen during a night. IMO.

And now I’m off to school. See you later guys.

First, it’s good to see I’m being unvoted, though two votes with 6 needed wasn’t too threatening. [bSairo\*\*, I actually considered throwing out a vote to start things off once the game opened up to kick off the conversation, much like you did. I thought better of it (and I had a vote on me already by the time I was ready to post and understood that the game was afoot), but I get your thought process. I’d rather let it roll off than start a spiral of accusation that leads us astray from scum hunting.

I get the math of a non-lynch on Day One. I’m thinking more about information, and I still don’t see much benefit.

**Astral** , thanks for the “post your suspicions, look at what’s said” post. I remember reading that, and that’s part of why I’m trying to get my thoughts on record. Yesterday, I didn’t have suspicions, but I’ll probably have a vote on the record today. **Mosier** tops my list for leaving the vote on **Plankton** and basing it on essentially nothing, but suspicions are hardly being pinged above the default level.

Lynch the lurker is better than a blind lynch of somebody that’s posting. Either they are scum and the lynch is good, or they aren’t contributing and little (other than a body) is bad. It’s better than a random lynch, but only in the absence of halfway decent candidates.

Finally, as I posted in the recruiting threat, I’ll be out of town a couple days on vacation. I’ll miss most of Day Two. I’ll probably toss out a vote and a couple of posts, but I won’t be doing much analysis. I should be back in earnest for Day Three, should I survive.

I probably shouldn’t post about being absent right after agreeing with lynch the lurker. Not good strategy there.

That’s what I said! It’s a bit of weirdness either way, and I’m still not sure which way makes more sense.

[out of game] Good luck with the school politics, Plum! I can absolutely imagine how frustrating that must be. I appreciate you still taking the time to check in here… real life takes precedence over a game. I can see why you’d be attracted to Mafia though… A game composed almost entirely around accusations and digging through countless posts that may or may not be outright lies, while people attack you for trying to suss out the truth. It’s exhilarating! 🙂

I don’t think we should necessarily choose _not_ to lynch someone on Day 1, but it seems that’s the only likely outcome to reasonable behavior. With nothing in particular to go on, how are we going to pick one person to cast all our votes for? It would be almost a random choice.

Vote Count

Suburbanplankton - 1 (Mosier)

Plumpudding - 1 (WF Tomba)

6 votes required for a lynch. Day 1 will end at 1230 pm EDT on Friday.

I once got lynched Day 1 because, in a game begun with cheese puns, my first post was “I’m here, finally. Not the best first post I could have made, but it’s pretty Gouda.”

People thought I was “trying to hard to be apologetic,” ignoring that it was all setup for the sweet, sweet cheese pun. It was a dreadful Day 1 lynch for me.

And because I learn nothing, I made _the exact same first post joke_ in the following game, as a way of tweaking my nose at the players who killed me before.

I almost got lynched again. 😃

Yes, I agree. Mosier’s argument for his vote flimsy on all counts as far as I see, with him(her?) already acknowlegding it beforehand. He thinks mods give out roles by preference, that they pick scum after cleverness, \*\*SP \*\*is clever and therefore scum, and after voting this, if he’s(she’s) wrong, we have suspicion to think he(she) is scum and vote \*\*Mosier \*\* nextDay. \*\*Mosier \*\*openly states that he(she) has no evidence of this, because no one has evidence of anything at this point, which is true.

But we can try. The more we all talk and the more substantial our arguments, the more we have to go on. Some might not have as much time to post as others, but make the arguments as good as possible and try to address as much as possible in those post you do find time for.

At work now on my phone, so I’ll make it short.

I see no reason to unvote Suburban Plankton yet. He has said nothing substantial, and I have no scum reads on anyone.

On a separate note, if we’re lynching today, it seems like it’s little better than random at this point. Whether we lynch today or not, we only get one chance to mislynch. Two incorrect lunches mean scum wins. If we skip today, at least we get a bit of info from the night outcome before we make the decision. All of this assumes 3 scum, which I have already mentioned I’m not convinced of.

**Mosier** ’s position isn’t unreasonable. The impact of that vote is negligible for now, though the reasoning is still daffy. We know **Plankton** would be thin on posts Day One, so I’m inclined to give a pass on the lurking. (I’ll be hoping for that pass Day Two, so there’s that.) I’d like to know where **Mahaloth** though. If he’s supposed to be the Day One lynch, he needs to start running his mouth and give us a reason.
