Dated song lyrics.

I’ll get around to it, eventually.

How about over-the-stove microwaves? They still sell tons of different models of those at Home Dopey, so my guess is they’re still installing them in new homes too.

I bought a small B&W in the fall of 1986…watched Bill Buckner do his croquet-wicket imitation on that TV. :smack: It wasn’t portable, in the sense of being able to operate without being plugged into an electrical outlet.

And there were still enough legacy B&W’s around that saying “color TV” was hardly outdated in 1985.

I didn’t really mean battery-operated, but rather capable of easily being moved from room to room. What I meant was that I doubted that full-size black and white TVs were still being sold in 1985.

I would guess that by then, if you said “TV,” it would be taken for granted that you meant a color television. You would have been much more likely to say “black and white TV” to distinguish a legacy TV from the most prevalent kind of television set of the day.

One day I will have to explain to my now 4 year old what Kid Rock meant by “G’s with the 40’s and the chicks with beepers”.

Wanna explain it to this 52 year old?

Take a Letter, Maria

At least he had a good reason for writing a letter (“Send a copy to my lawyer.”) But suppose you miss your lover so much that you want him to fly immediately to see you?

Gimme a ticket for an aeroplane
I ain’t got time to take a fast train
Lonely days are gone, I’m a-goin’ home
'Cause my baby just wrote me a letter

Don Williams - If Hollywood Don’t Need You, 1982

Oh, and if you see Burt Reynolds
Would you shake his hand for me?
And tell old Burt, I’ve seen all his movies

Some more VCR references:

Turn on my V.C.R.
Same one I’ve had for years
James Brown on the TAMI show
Same tape I’ve had for years

The Police-“When The World is Running Down”

Oh brother Greg this time you’ve taken it too far
That’s when your girlfriend stole my VCR

G.Love & Special Sauce-“Lay Down The Law”

I’m at a payphone trying to call home
All of my change I spent on you

Of course, it was released in 2012.

Payphones still exist. And they come in handy if you forgot to bring your cell phone with you.

Barry McGuire’s “Eve of Destruction” - “you’re old enough to kill, but not for votin’.” This was before the 26th Amendment lowered the voting age to 18, matching the age of draft eligibility.

Oooo. This is a goood one from Jackson Browne in 1977: The Load Out.

How dated is all of that?

" I’ve got a brand new pair of rollerskates
You’ve got a brand new key "

I have a roller skate key in my jewelry box with class rings, peace sign pins and love beads. No skates.

I wonder how many people really needed to have the definition of a “phone booth” explained to them. Although considering it was in a newspaper, probably nobody who actually reads a newspaper is too young to know what a phone booth is.

I think young people know what phone booths are, even if they don’t use them.
