I Read Somewhere that Chappelle didn’t really want to do a third season anyway, so he asked for such a ridiculous amount of money that there was now way they could agree to it. He asked for _50 million dollars_ and they said “okay”. ---

Dave had a segment on his show early in season 2 called ‘Negrodamas’ about a black Nostradamas. One of the audience questions was: why do white people like Waye Brady? The answer: Because Wayne Brady makes Bryant Gumbel look like Malcolm X. (i.e. he’s even more non-threatening) This sets up sort of a rivalry between the two. Later, Dave does a show that leads off with his freaking out, getting fired, and Brady is hired on to replace him. So ‘Chapelle Show’ becomes ‘Brady Show’. The show culminates with a flashback of Dave and Wayne hanging out, where he voices his displeasure at Dave’s ribbing, and you get to see his darker side. In quick succession, Wayne Brady: -kills Ashy Larry in a drive-by -extorts money from his very own stable of hookers (Is Wayne Brady gonna have to choke a bitch?) - kills a police officer while singing the theme song to his short lived tv show - drugs Dave with PCP - eats Dave’s sandwich - shoots Dave in the leg Bear in mind, this is all performed by the REAL Wayne Brady. Comedy gold. The only thing that tops this guest appearance is perhaps Arsenio Hall (played by himself) freaking out and beating people up at a wine and cheese party. (This is some goddamn good cheese, mothafucka!) ---

Wayne Brady is a comedian with a really wholesome image. He appeared on Chappelle’s show playing a murderous pimp, completely freaking Chappelle out. It was kinda funny, which is all I can say for the best of Chappelle’s stuff (my teenage son, on the other hand, was laughing his ass off; no accounting…). ---

Like **Manduck** alluded to, it would appear Dave is uncomfortable with all the attention the show’s popularity has resulted in. He asked for an insane amout of money hoping they’d say no and he wouldn’t have to do the show. When they said yes he not only had to do the show but now also had to justify such an exhorbitant salary. His trip to SA was likely not related to drugs but was simply a way to get away from the stress and chill out, collect his thoughts. It would seem his departure has been in the works for some time and is completely his choice. ---

The line works even if you’re NOT a Wayne Brady fan. But this single show was so funny it made me reassess Brady. Anybody who can play with their image like that has got to be cool. ---
