I’ve never heard it mentioned here in the St. Louis media that he was. ---

Baseball-Reference doesn’t mention any relationship between David and Gene Freese (or Gene’s brother George, also a former major leaguer). ---

Gene Freese actually played one season for the Cardinals. Given the St. Louis media’s constant reminders that David Freese is a hometown product, if he had any relationship to a former Cardinal (nephew, grandson, third-cousin fifth removed) we would have heard it by now.
