Okay, so fire at the White House, fire on the Mall, explosion and/or plane crash at the Pentagon. Everyone okay? Anyone know what the hell’s happening? ---

I’m here in Alexandria, with a view of the Pentagon and DC. I can seee a helluva lotta smoke from my window! God, I hope all the NYC Dopers and their loved ones are OK! ---

**phantomdiver** is still alive, at last check. She’s in a coworker’s office listening to the radio. Quite frankly, I wish she were giving me minute updates on: 1. She’s still alive. 2. They have not been bombed. 3. She is still alive (and so is Opal, but I don’t expect her to know that) 4. She sees nothing impending on Nos. 1-3. A friend of mine tells me (yeah, yeah, cites, whatever, I can’t load ANY news webpages and there ain’t a TV in here) that both planes that crashed into the WTC were hijacked. They better not fucking hurt my mommy. ---

In Capital Hill… Kind of scared but ok. A police officer I saw on the street said the white house had been been h it too but it was going to remain un-reported. Hopefully someone who works closer to it (Olentzero, Montfort, or DCNewsman) will be able to say for sure. HUGS! Sqrl ---

Jesus I didn’t know the White House had been hit. I’m a few blocks away from there but hadn’t heard anything. Everyone is going home, but I can’t. I can’t get in touch with any of my friends or my daughter’s father to see if he’s ok. They’re all only contactable by cell at this time of day and you can guess that all the cell providers are swamped. I feel so alone. I want to cry but if I do I probably won’t be able to stop. This is horrible. How can people do these things? My SO needs to make sure his young daughter and the rest of his children (grown) are ok before he comes to get me. (He didn’t say this but I’m sure that’s what he’s doing.) My daughter is far away from danger so at least I don’t have to worry about that. I’d feel much better if I could get in touch with her dad and make sure he’s ok. I keep thinking that I don’t have life insurance. It sounds like there are about a million emergency vehicles going by the office. I hope this stops now. ---

I am at work in a telco central office, four blocks from the White House. Traffic is grid-locked outside my windows. Im looking around my workstation trying to remember what the hell I do here, what is my job function? I can’t even remember the pass code into my voicemail to get messages. The boss is considering sending us all home. ---

PLDennison and I are okay. His building in Arlington was evacuated. He’s at his boss’s house now–my company’s closed and I’m heading to meet him there to figure out how to get home. PLD has family who work in downtown Manhattan – keep good thoughts, prays, chants, vibes, four-leaf cloves, whatever it is you do… ---

I live five miles west of the Pentagon. You can begin to see the smoke over the horizon at Bailey’s Crossroads. I am so damn lucky that I oversleep and didn’t take that 9:15 bus to it. Thank Louise that they didn’t use biological weapons! There’s a slight breeze coming from the west. ---

I work at a federal agency under the Dept. of Health and Human Services. We’re up in Rockville, MD, not downtown, but they closed our offices and sent us home around 11:00. I have friends who work downtown; I don’t know whether or not they’re okay. ---

We’re okay, but I’m goin’ to war, baby. Really. Everybody think of what they can do, because this may not be over for awhile. The attacks, I mean. If you can donate blood, food, clothes, time or anything at all to The Effort (there will be one, I promise you), do so. If you’re EMT-qualified, get your gear together and stand by. If you have high-school kids, get 'em ready for some kind of civil service, or think about a way to get them away from metro areas, maybe to relatives in the country. Pitch in, people. They can’t whip all of us. ---

I was supposed to go to Baltimore to-day for an INS interview, otherwise, I’d be right downtown working, 3 blocks from the White House. I just picked up my wife at the metro, they closed her office.
