DC travel Q - restaurants near Dupont Circle

Mount Everest might be the place for you if you are in the mood for something a little bit different. I’ve been there twice. The food is good but depending on when you get there, the service can be incredibly slow.

I worked there for about eight years.

Ordinarily I’d say yes, I’d love to, but I’m only in town for 2 evenings and my sister doesn’t want to share my time, since we don’t get to see each other that often.

:frowning:

I recommend Johnny’s Half Shell.

Absolutely heavenly.

Popping in to say Thanks! to everyone who made recommendations for places to eat.

We only had 4 meals to work with (2 lunches, 2 dinners) so we weren’t able to even scratch the surface of all the choices!

Thai Chef - I had a really good spicy eggplant dish with basil & tofu. Sister had pad thai, and we started with pork satay.

Meskerem - we walked over to 18th St, not remembering the name of the recommended Ethiopian place, but found it nonetheless. Had a lovely meal of vegetable Sambussa, and a sampling of different dishes for the main course.

Buca di Beppo - yes, I know, a chain, and not recommended by anyone, but it’s only open for dinner and my sister really wanted to try it. We started with a really good spinach salad with tomatoes, goat cheese and nuts. The pasta dish we ordered was tasty (penne cardinale, I think) but not anything to write home about, but my sister & I had a great time which is what we really wanted anyway.

Some Mexican restaurant that we don’t remember the name of. At lunch the second day we wandered off in the wrong direction from Dupont Circle, and ended up somewhere other than where my sister thought we were headed, and by the time we walked by this Mexican place we were hungry & running out of lunch break, so we ate there. It was good, though nothing spectacular, so I consider it OK that we don’t remember the name.

Most likely Lauriol Plaza. Was it in a large, warehouse-looking building with big windows?
