Of course it was nailed to the perch!

If we 'adn’t nailed 'im to the perch, 'e would’ve muzzled up to the bars, spread 'em apart and… VOOM!

Considering the fact that I started the OP by stating that I was fishing, “nailing the bird to the perch” conjures up some pretty bizarre images.

Duh–didn’t even think of the hospital.

Though I think the plaintiff might actually have to put the daughter down for the complaint to be actionable.
