Sad to say…I kinda dig this show.

Maybe it’s because it involves actual _real_ people, unlike about 97% of the other “reality” crap on TV. Somehow watching these guys restores the faith in humanity that mere clips of _Survivor_ on the news work so hard to chip away. And I don’t even _like_ crab.

Discovery is quickly becoming my favorite channel. Between this, _Mythbusters_, _How It’s Made_, and _Man vs. Wild_ (I highly appreciate the fact that Bear actually says so when a bug he eats isn’t too good…), they’ve got a pretty good programming slate going.

Let’s just hope they resist the temptation to co-produce a _Deadliest Catch_ vs. _Axe-Men_ special with the History Channel 😃

It’s funny you say that you like this show because it shows real people, and you like Man vs. Wild too.

Deadliest catch is a great show. I had my attention split between the show and other things. Having 18 hours as a short shift is just amazing to me. At least they get compensated adequately for it.

Well, I didn’t say that I liked them for the same reason. _Man vs. Wild_ is completely staged, it’s true, but I don’t find it to be nearly as moronic as some other survival/“up close and personal with nature”-type shows.

I saw a particularly dumb show about the deadliest snakes in Africa or some such thing recently, where the host was going on and on about how dangerous this one particular snake he’s looking for is, how he could be dead within ten minutes if if bites him, etc. etc…and then he proceeds to swing Tarzan-style off of a riverbank and into the water just to grab one of the things. Oh, and he got bitten TWICE during this show. By two of the deadliest snakes in Africa. And winds up in the hospital both times. Come on, dude. A little overdone, don’t you think?

Somehow it seems to me that _Man vs. Wild_ practices a certain amount of restraint most of the time (well, except for the episode where he ate the goat testicles…was that really necessary?). Of course, TV producers are going to insist on putting ridiculous flourishes in ANY show to make it more entertaining, but I’ve seen a whole lot worse.
