That was funny, and I liked the $5400 grocery bill. But, it was also just about the only part of the episode that looked slightly doctored for reality TV.
Who, really, just sweeps boxes of food into a grocery cart by the arm load?
Part of what’s cool about this show is that when they’re working. . .it’s dramatic enough.
I loved it last night when Jake set a fire by mistake (or something) and the other guy goes, “that was not a full share move.”
I liked how they switched from heavy metal type music to “50’s housewife doing domestic chores” type music as they switched the shot from the Captain to the wife.
I wonder how Blake got the Captain’s job on the Maverick? Last season it seemed pretty certain that Rick wasn’t handing him the keys any time soon. His crew looks pretty young too - I wonder if all the veterans quit when they found out Blake was the new Captain. Wasn’t it Hiram who said he’d never get on a boat with Blake as the captain?
I just got into this show, and I love it. There was a marathon on the other day and it I caught the tail end of it. I saw that one of the guys was able to give his son a full cut of the profits. He seemed so excited.
Last nights episode was great. The ending got me a little worried though
Yes, from what I’ve seen on the show, the big money is in king crab, but they also fish for cod (oddly enough, with crab pots) and another species of crab called opilio, aka snow crab.
The opilio season is in January. They start and only fish until a predetermined quota is caught, usually only for a month.
King crab season is very short - typically four to five days until the quota is caught, and starts in November.
Cod looks to have two seasons - in April and September.
I just wanted to say how strange it is that this seemingly overlooked show is really so very fantastic and oft-viewed.
At the bar a week or so ago a past season was on the TV and me and a friend got into a big conversation about it with several strangers. Seems lots of folks have seen it from every walk of life and everybody likes and respects it.
Yeah they do I was watching the best of season 2 last week and they showed how much the guys made with the cod and the crab and each got to take home close to 50grand each. They really did some hard work to get all that.
Anyone check it out last night? Blake’s team caught an impressive amount of crab, which it not bad for him considering he is the rookie Capitan. The next time scenes looked pretty serious, someone’s finger gets damaged pretty bad.
Blake was hauling HUGE pots last night. I get pyched whenever they haul up big ones. I loved when the guy said, “who needs a little blue pill when you’re hauling in pots like this.”
I like the guy who captains the boat with his wife on it. He’s new this year.
I felt bad for his wife. If I were seasick like that, the last thing I’d want to do is cook. I loved that she made them roast beef and mashed potatos for breakfast, that’s the type of rib sticking food they need.
If the wife/cook/greenhorn is getting a share (effectively taking money from the other crabbers), they I don’t feel sorry for her. Seasick or not, she’s got a job to do. She seemed to suck it up towards the end, and was getting a feel for sorting crab (and stuffing bait pots). With half-full pots, it was a good time to learn.
The one I felt sorry for was the survivor from the fishing boat. That was sad.
Sig was crying at the end. The lack of sleep, stress, and the deaths that day may have gotten to him. Or maybe he was missing American Idol. They didn’t really say.
