I really enjoyed Deadpool. I normally don’t watch films in theaters, but felt I should make an exception for this one.

I was wondering about that, why did they do the joke about the studio only able to afford licensing two X-Men? And the sign that called it Xavier’s Academy for something or other definitely seemed to signal a licensing/trademark thing, but that seems odd if it’s owned by the same studio.

Missed edit window on the above post, but apparently it was called “Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters” which is the actual original name (I’m obviously not a comic buff). Still wondering about the licensing joke though.

Btw, apparently whomever called that being a helicarrier at the end apparently nailed it, because according to this article, it is:

(it used to have artwork to make the point, but it seems that part’s been removed)

The joke is that Fox has no confidence in the idea of a Deadpool film so did the bare minimum - threw him a couple of characters they didn’t care about and distributed it. It was made for $58mil, which is apparently what they had in petty cash, compared to what other superhero movies run.

The worry now is sophomore slump for the sequel, as the tendency is to throw tons of money at the second film, and maximize marketing opportunities by adding as many characters as possible. It’s especially likely with Fox, since they’ve had so many misfires with their Marvel properties, They’ll be desperate to capitalize on the success, forgetting that a key factor may have been their minimal involvement.

Ah - I probably misremembered it slightly and they didn’t use the word “license” but the joke was that the studio could only _afford_ to put two X-Men in the film. Which makes more sense, because even if they own the characters there would still be the cost of the actors and the effects and such.

Saw it last night. They pulled it off amazingly. Very unexpected. They made the right call CGIing his mask eyes like they did. Wouldn’t have been the same movie without an emotive face. Wow. Great job.

A hopeful sign in an [interview with Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick](http://collider.com/deadpool-2-cable-budget-x-men-characters/):

> “We don’t want $150 million to go make the next movie, that’s not Deadpool. Deadpool doesn’t lift cities up into the air or battle aliens coming down to earth, that’s just not Deadpool. So we’re happy in that little small budget range that they have us in; we don’t wanna blow this next one out.”

It’s hardly a guarantee or anything but since Reese and Wernick are already writing the next movie, it’s something positive.

Finally saw it tonight, after watching the R trailer oh, 15 or 16 times. This was the first Marvel movie I’ve actually deliberately planned to see. It was great, but there were some lines in the trailer that weren’t in the movie - like Weasel telling Wade he looked like the inside of other people’s assholes, or Leslie Uggams telling him he sounded like he had a dick in his mouth. Not a big miss, but there was a scene in the trailer of Morena Baccarin telling Francis “I’ve played lots of roles. Damsel in distress ain’t one of them” that I was looking for, to see if it was a Vanessa line or another fourth-wall break. That was missing, and I was hoping to see Vanessa kick some ass on her own.

The carrier at the end was definitely a Helicarrier. It isn’t the same design as the ones in the MCU but when it tips over at the end you can see the “engines” on the side.

Ryan Reynolds does a lot of ad libbing in his movies. Watch almost any of his movies on DVD, and there’s almost always an outtake of him doing the same scene over and over, with a different line in each take. [Here’s an example from _Blade III_.](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bln5M-rltvs)

I imagine the outtake reel on the _Deadpool_ DVD will be almost as long as the movie itself.

Some family showed up with what appeared to be a 6 year old, when I went to see it this weekend. I thought about saying something before the movie started, but decided it was none of my business.

The child was escorted out of the theater in tears about half-way through.

When my husband and I went, the couple who brought their three children (ages approximately 4, 6, and 8) beat out the couple who brought their two children (approximately 5 and young enough to require a stroller, although walking somewhat) for Parents Of The Year by leaving their three children alone for 10 or so minutes in the theater to go fetch snacks. As in both parents went to go get snacks while leaving all three children unattended in the theater for the 8:30 PM showing of Deadpool on a Monday night.

We’d gone to the movie with a good friend of ours who chances to be a social worker. It was _all he could do_ not to say something to the parents. He kept muttering “I’m off the clock” under his breath.

> Yeah, let’s see. There’s the aforementioned fully-nude strip club scene, an extended sex montage including the aforementioned pegging, a couple other bits of incidental nudity, a cutaway shot of Deadpool semi-explicitly masturbating, and numerous lines of dialogue explicitly referencing specific sex acts. Oh, and Deadpool has a fight scene while nude – his “naughty bits” are mostly (but not entirely) hidden, but the scene definitely has a sexual humiliation overtone.
>
> The violence is pretty much constant and explicit. It’s not THAT much more graphic than other gory R-rated romps, but there’s something about it that is a little darker than most. There’s a stronger sense that Deadpool is KILLING PEOPLE, not just…shooting generic cannon fodder. There’s also some sequences of torture for the sake of torture that are pretty intense.
>
> This isn’t a movie that has an R-rating because they said “fuck” too often and flashed some tits. It’s a movie that has an R-rating because it’s attempting to push the edges of what is acceptable in “mainstream” entertainment. This isn’t a movie where they are teetering on the edge of PG-13; this is a movie where they were carefully keeping it JUST this side of NC-17.
>
> I respect that people can be exposed to different material at different ages. I respect that people can make their own decisions for their kids.
>
> Please don’t take a nine-year-old to see Deadpool. Hell, if for no other reason than that it would be uncomfortable for every other person who showed up to see the movie.

Exactly. I took my 12 yo son this past weekend because he was really eager to see it after the trailers and commercials. I had no idea who Deadpool was but he explained to me the basic back story.
We immediately loved the whole attitude and style of the movie. We were both laughing out loud repeatedly. Then the girl shows up and the sex started. I figured there was going to be a brief sex scene, no big deal. No, it was an extended montage of all sorts of sex acts, including Ryan Reynolds getting buttfucked with a strap on dildo. I covered his eyes through that and hoped that was the worst of it and we’d be on to action scenes and jokes.
But it just kept coming. Constant talk about not just sex, but really really raunchy sex. Scenes of Ryan Reynolds masturbating, the strip club, etc. I finally had to take my son home about halfway through the movie.
Now I’m not blaming anyone but myself for not checking into the movie before taking my son, but damn, that was way beyond a lot of “fuck” and some dirty jokes. I’m past the point of trying to keep my son’s delicate ears from hearing bad language, but some of this stuff was enough to make me squirm. And I assure you I’m no prude.
This is a very hard R, and very different from any other comic book hero movie. I wish I’d known that ahead of time. I felt bad having taken my son and exposed him to some of that.
It’s a shame though, because if I’d gone on my own I would have loved it.
