I’m starting this in Cafe Society, simply because that’s where I hope its focus will remain, but if it turns into a game or something else, that’s just how and where y’all will take it. If it dies on the vine, well, it won’t be my first thread to do so. The basic premise for this thread is to use the HBO series [“Deadwood” (2004)](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0348914/) as the jumping off place for tracking the actors of that series as they have moved on to other shows and movies. I have done a keyword search in SDMB titles for “deadwood” and have found 78 such threads as old as [Deadwood on HBO](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=247861) started 03-28-2004, 10:18 PM by **Odesio** , and as recent as [Deadwood question, possible open spoiler](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=552236) started 02-15-2010, 12:34 AM by **The Second Stone** , but I have yet to read all their contents so I can’t guess whether a similar idea has been presented before. Perhaps some other show or movie has spawned a similar idea. What gave me the idea is that there are at least two ongoing TV series featuring ex-Deadwood folks where other ex-Deadwood folks show up from time to time and get mentioned because of their Deadwood connections. **AuntiePam** is at least as big a Deadwood fan as I am, and I know quite a few others with similar affections. Earl Brown](http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0114868/) who was Dan Dority in [Deadwood Fight eps 5 seas 3](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xeS6y6mbUzY) which was the first thing I thought of in response to [Name some movies with realistic fight scenes](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=559952), started 04-16-2010, 01:47 PM by **Arnold Winkelried**. Whether or not W. Earl actually does appear next week, there are already quite a few ex-Deadwood folks, including the star [Timothy Olyphant](http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0648249/), who have been getting work in _Justified_, and I think it’s neat that Seth Bullock’s wife [Martha (Anna Gunn)](http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0348152/) is the main female star of _Breaking Bad_. I have numbers of others to contribute to this idea but I will hold off until some of you help get this moving along. Viva Deadwood! ---

Jim Beaver, AKA Ellsworth on _Deadwood_, has been a semi-regular\* character on the show \*Supernatural \*since its beginning. - “Semi-regular” doesn’t sound like much, but other than the two stars, he’s one of the two most important characters on the show. ---

Understood! [Jim Beaver](http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0064769/) was perhaps the only thing about the pathetic [“Harper’s Island” (2009)](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1232320/) that kept my interest. This is one of those shows (perhaps it’s because it was on at an otherwise dead time slot) I would have bailed out on after two episodes but managed to force myself to see all the way through. Utter shit! But Old Jim kept his part interesting. He was also in that fiasco [“John from Cincinnati” (2007)](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0814164/) which was David Milch’s unfortunate attempt to keep a career alive after _Deadwood_. Quite a few of the old Deadwood gang got parts there, but I’m willing to bet none are really bragging about that! ---

She was one of the teachers (or school officials) in [The Blind Side (2009)](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0878804/) and it took my checking the cast list to realize it was Joanie! Another of my favorite ex-Deadwood actors is [Titus Welliver](http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0920038/) who was Silas Adams and who has had significant roles in [“Sons of Anarchy” (2008)](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1124373/) and [“The Good Wife” (2009)](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1442462/) among others. ---

Two actors that I don’t think I had seen before _Deadwood_ but have seen quite a bit of since are [Garret Dillahunt](http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0226813/) who was quite significant in [“Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles” (2008)](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0851851/) and [Dayton Callie](http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0130502/) who has a featured role in [“Sons of Anarchy” (2008).](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1124373/) In some other thread not long ago I called attention to [Robin Weigert](http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0917848/) (Calamity Jane) in a smallish role in a recent episode of [“The Mentalist” (2008)](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1196946/) and how hard it was to recognize her all cleaned up! ---

Some of the actors are really hard to spot – Robin Weigert without the dirt and slurred speech, and most of the men, without the facial hair. ---

Not where he’s at now, but I’m still astonished that [W. Earl Brown](http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0114868/), who played Al’s right hand man **Dan Dority** , was the same guy who played Cameron Diaz’s mentally disabled brother in _There’s Something About Mary_.
