Do _not_ edit the text in a quote box. This is a direct violation of SDMB rules. I’m not issuing a warning, but as a member for over seven years, you should know this by now.

The full text of the rule in question is as follows:

Falsely attributing a quote to another user, or modifying another’s post in order to cast him/her in a bad light, even if meant in jest, is grounds for revocation of your posting privileges.

This does not apply to parodies to which no name is attached.

Normal editorial rules apply: that is, you may indicate omitted portions of a quote by the use of ellipses “…” and you may add text to clarify a word using square brackets (e.g., “her [the sister’s] friend”), but you may \*\*not \*\* add editorial comments or edit a quote so as to change the substantive meaning; nor may you substitute text such as “some blather” or “more nonsense” inside the

So, this is playing with fire, but have you tried Reddit or 4Chan? Strangers on the internet can find _anything._ A good friend of mine found out a coworker starred in a gay porn, and based on nothing but his facebook photo found the video and pictures within an hour.

Yes, but I didn’t pry. (She hates prying). I believe it is for generalized anxiety. My mum doesn’t speak English (she’s Chinese) and I am not sure what the terms she told me translate to in English.

I had sent a message to urge her to seek out a doctor and contact psychiatric help resources on behalf of my mum on intervention options and lay it out before my mum.

I know this sound unnecessarily cruel of me, but I dare not tread too deep into this situation; I just got out from a three years dump of depression and anxiety, and I am not sure if I could cope too. I hope my sis would too.

Be prepared for issues with the doctor if she’s at all self-aware- my cousin went through some kind of breakdown a few years back, at the time he decided I was ‘his one ally in the family’ so I got quite a lot of weird phone calls…

They eventually talked him into seeing a doctor, and the only one of his delusions he said in that interview was that he thought he was not genetically the child of his father, and this was causing family friction. Doctor thought this was quite reasonable, basically told him it’s possible that he’s right, and told his family off for wasting time.

The alien abduction/rape of his mother story somehow didn’t come out in front of someone who could actually get him treatment or possibly sectioned… Took a few more years for him to get any treatment. Just thought I’d mention it- it is possible she’ll tone down the paranoia a lot in front of psychiatric professionals… Don’t assume getting her to a doctor will automatically sort it out.

Give yourself a break. It is certainly NOT cruel of you to suggest that your sister seek out a doctor and get the help she needs. If someone was bleeding from a deep cut, and was putting a band-aid on it, it would not be cruel of you to urge them to see a doctor for stitches.

Good idea to look after yourself too.
