I’d think you’d have to make a pretty precise shot to hit someone in the abdomen with a bullet and not kill them. Then again, I suppose if you kill the perp you have “neutralized” them, haven’t you?
I think the proper term is “neuterize” when you shoot the man’s balls off.
Maybe because he’s been paying attention the last 20 years? I would have expected an American SWAT team to have killed at least 3 innocent bystanders, shot both robbers 57 times, burned down a city block in an attempt to get at the robbers, broken out every little bit of their military surplus toys and then denied that they were at the McDonalds in the first place.
But the warning shot was stupid.
There’s nothing wrong with warning shots. Shoot it at some grass, at the bottom edge of a concrete building, towards a big body of water. The chances are that you’ll not hit anyone. Given the horrible rates of sanctioned murder that American cops go through, and the amount of damage, injury, and deaths they cause, maybe Americans should abandon their traditional beliefs and be open minded about how better cops work elsewhere.
We think warning shots are stupid, they don’t, and they have much less violence by cops. We’re probably wrong
Since when is a gut shot merely a “neutralization shot” and not an attempt to kill the perp slowly, painfully, and expensively?
Shoot the grass, hit a rock, ricochet.
Shoot concrete, ricochet.
Shoot water, ricochet.
Even a pistol bullet can carry several hundred yards.
Checks forum, makes sure it’s still in the Pit.
That’s the stupidest thing you’ve ever said…this week.

Or ‘we’ are really bad at relative comparisons. France has a population less than a fifth of that of the US, and it’s a population that’s mainly composed of, you know, French people (there are probably nearly as many Americans of French descent in the US as there are French people in France :p). They basically have much less violence, period, than the US does…as do most western European countries, all of which make up part of our overall population. As well as people from basically everywhere else on the planet, all in our national pressure cooker, and with our history of racial baggage and hatreds. So, saying that ‘they have much less violence by cops’ is an apples to orangutans comparison. As is the OPs assumption that the French police are ‘the real pros’ and the US police (over a million REGULAR officers in a wild variety of departments with wildly different and varied standards and conditions they work under) are all blood thirsty bunglers.
OP: “I respect cops and have nothing against them and want them to get home safe, but they are uneducated, unprofessional dolts!”

Without more information, there is no way I think that was a bunch of warning shots and a ‘neutralization’ shot instead of a bunch of missed shots and finally a hit.
I think you’ve answered your own country. A third-world country like U.S.A. just lacks the finances to have high schools or police training as good as a first-world country like France. The libtards would try to squeeze more money out of the oppressed rich, but they’d just spend any extra money on drones and cruise missiles getting ready for the next foolish war. Our only hope is to build a Wall.
Yeah. Shame on those Froggies for not just emptying their magazines into suspects at the first opportunity.
You’ve never even seen a gun in person, have you?
Yep, still retarded.
Yeah, and each ricochet decreases the amount of energy in the bullet. A couple of those and it would be going fast enough to fly through a piece of paper.
And seriously, ricochet off water? Maybe if they were magic bullets
Or magic water!
Doesn’t matter. Crime comparison is expressed as a number per X amount of people. France could have a population of 1 million and we could still compare crime rates
What is this, a subtle dig at immigrants? So what if they are mostly French people? There is no relevance. You might as well state how many left-handed people there are.
It sounds to me like you’re saying that the French are more homogenized, so that makes them less violent overall, and the history of race and immigration in the US leads to violence by criminals and heavy retaliation by cops. Its a good thing we’re in the Pit because I couldn’t say this anywhere else: You’re a fucking racist
The comparison is apt, you just don’t want to see it through your immigrant-hating glasses. US police can be taught not to retaliate as the first, second, and third options. They can be taught that sometimes firing a warning shot is ok. They can be taught conflict resolving methods that doesn’t involve a hail of bullets. They can be taught that if one officer fires, that’s not the signal for every other cop within a 2 block radius with a gun to unload their whole magazine. They can be taught that you don’t shoot to kill, that you shoot to disable. All of these things have little bearing on the fearmongering you wanted to spread about the dangers of the immigrant criminal. They are behaviors we can instill in our cops so they don’t think “hail of bullets” is a proper solution to any problem
Just to educate you about guns a little bit, bullets can most definitely ricochet off water.
Not really. It’s mostly luck what happens with the bullet as it enters the body based on angle, distance, movement, etc. Most times, I’d say a single shot to the abdomen is survivable if afforded timely medical attention.
(my bold)
Yes, seriously. Bullets will easily ricochet off of water at a given angle. The ricochets will travel in unpredictable trajectories. At the speed that bullets travel they will easily bounce off of the water like a skipping stone from angles typical from a person standing near a body of water. Here are some videos. Anytime you think you know something about firearms, keep in mind this example of complete ignorance.
So the French elite special ops units are mind readers! That’s the problem the US has. If only they could employ mind readers so they would know that when criminals have already discharged a firearm in a populated area, they really mean no harm!
GED with 2 years active military service. And why are you denigrating a GED?
In a local restaurant robbery, several people were carrying but decided not to fire at the three robbers lest the bad guys begin shooting by standers. I agree with that decision.
Cops need to use judgment - totally fine with that. Sometimes that has a good outcome, and sometimes that has a bad outcome. If the robbers decided to shoot a person in the face after that judgment, would it still be a good choice? I mean, hey, if they were such crack shots as implied the could have just shot the gun right out of the hands of the robber while simultaneously controlling the ricochets!
My French is quite rusty so I’m going off what I can find in English, but – for what it’s worth – it appears that French cops do not indeed require a college degree.
They need to be at least 17, in good health, and having passed the baccalauréat (a test at the end of high school). Once hired they have a year of police academy, including what appears to be a kind of practicum.
LOL GED!!11!
