The sad thing is that the bigots who supported these measures can’t even hide behind the old “states rights” dodge the way they can at the federal level. There is no reason to support these measures except to stick it to gay folks. ---

I have a family member who worked over seas for several years. He fell in love and would love to get married and bring his man back to the States to live. Instead he gets to leave sad and alone in a few days. It’s either that or live in the third world for the rest of his life. Meanwhile, fat old desperate men can get all the mail-order brides they want. Fuckers. ---

Obviously, some people voted against it, and I would bet he supports them, but now that the majority approved it will be an amendment to the state constitution. Therefore, it is that states issue, and the state can be hated as an entity for placing it in effect. Course, I could just be putting words into their mouths. Regardless, this amendment is gay but I do not see how this did not gain more momentum. North Carolina would probably do it along with VA, the only state to still have in-effect sodimy laws. Fucking “democracy.” I am with **gobear** , though - the only way to change it is with action, not bitter resentment. Get these ignorant people to a light fast and all that ---

On an up note, the citizens of Cincinnati repealed the article in our city charter that prohibits civil rights protection for sexual orientation. How that jibes with the whole marriage thing beats the fuck outta me, though. This is the most conservative metropolitan area of the state. ---

So to clarify, I’ll just say “fuck you” to two-thirds of Ohio, a little over half of Oregon (god damn I still can’t believe this passed in Oregon), three-fourths (or some obscenely high percentage like that) of Alabama, and all the other applicable percentages. I know there’s good people in those states. However, when I looked it up on CNN and saw that every single amendment had passed, I just totally flipped out. I’m still flipped out, but at least I can see straight enough now to notice that there were some votes in the “no” column too. ---

I would point out also that in giving a “fuck you” to these states, you are criticizing entire states for the actions of approximately three or four people out of a hundred. In the states you giving a pass, the difference is still three or four out of a hundred, only in your favor. Is it really fair, or even intelligent, to condemn entire states or regions of the country when the difference between the two sides is so small? ---

I would apologize, but the tone of the OP requires me to respond in kind: fuck you back. That said, I am disheartened. Every major organization with a voice, every newspaper, every politician with the guts to speak out, came out foresquare against this measure in Michigan. Still, the people voted out of their ignorance, fear, and hatred. What more can I say? I am truly sorry, and very discouraged. I expect we’ll be fighting against re-instatement of the Death Penalty in Michigan, next election. ---

Though my apology to **avabeth** still stands, I don’t get why residents of these states are taking this so personally. I don’t get offended when someone disses Pennsylvania. If my state would have passed an SSM ban, it would have been listed here as well. ---

Oh give me a break. To the same extent that current headlines like “Ohio approves same sex marriage ban” or for that matter “The United States re-electes George Bush” are valid and accurate, it’s just as valid and accurate to reply, “Fuck you Ohio, for doing that”. And only to that extent. It’s a rhetorical convience. When my foreign say “Goddamn the US for giving us four more years of Bush” (and they wil) it wouldn’t occur to me in a million years that they were condemning me. Much as it wouldn’t occur to them.
