I’m not an abortion expert or anything, (and I realize a little information is the most dangerous thing) but I did do some research a while back when I thought I may need one. It seems to me that time is of the essence here. The earlier you do the abortion, the easier (and cheaper! A huge factor for somebody in such financial dire straights) the whole thing is on you. Heck, under nine weeks (the earlier the better), they’ll just give you the pill (RU 486) and send you on your merry way. What’s more, some clinics will only do abortions in the first trimester, and won’t do them after that. A second trimester abortion is much more expensive, it’s medically riskier, and in some areas, there are no clinics or doctors who offer those services. I used to volunteer as an escort for an abortion clinic, and most of the volunteers eventually learned which clinics would do only first trimester abortions, and which clinics would do second trimester abortions. Nobody would do elective third trimester abortions in our area, even though technically it’s legal. ---

I’ve been here a long time. Almost 12 years. I’ve seen a lot transpire here. I don’t usually get angry and disappointed in this forum at the same time, but this is definitely one of those days. The pure, seething scorn and relentless…vulture-ism displayed in this thread is ridiculous. I guess I am willing to give everyone the benefit of the doubt and assume that we’ve all been jerked around one too many times ( **RSSchen** , **Kaitlyn** , etc.) that when someone comes into our community and shares something we find foreign to our own experiences, our hair-trigger response is to lambaste and criticize and doubt. We hold everyone up the mirror of our own image we hold in our heads and, not surprisingly, no one measures up. In a way, everyone on this forum is like a mini- **Dio**. I’d like to think that the cynicism stems from being burned one too many times, but I can’t. One of the worst faults of Dopers as a whole is that we like to think we’re some special group that is smarter than everyone else. News flash: We’re not. We’re just _like_ everyone else, whether that means we’re petty and vindictive, or too smart for our goods by trying to nitpick people’s words to death with a sneer on our faces. Obviously, **CP** is a lying con artist who is making up stories out of whole cloth. She (or even he!) is some loser living in mom’s basement jerking the collective chain of the Dope. How do I know this? Because spending six hours in a Planned Parenthood is my idea of a delightful afternoon. Because it is impossible to Google up tons of info about a millionaire dad who spent time in jail, defrauded lots of people, had a Chinese wife and was involved in the biggest divorce case Iowa has ever seen. Because her boyfriend (hopefully ex, who caused the non-existent pregnancy) couldn’t possibly be a poker player or a former accountant. And winning over $60K from one Texas Hold 'Em tournament at the Venetian is chump change. Because her son (who may not even exist) is being abused, mistreated and deprived. This is why I did not see the immense feeling of love in her eyes when we didn’t go pick him up from his very nice and caring babysitters (who do not, by the way, have the biggest damn dog I have ever seen), and absolutely did not jabber all the way home about his complete dominance at Mario Kart on the Wii and then good-naturedly ridicule my shirt (which she did not make him apologize for). Because she obviously has had a TON of good relationship models from which to draw, and a robust support system of friends, neighbors and loved one from which to draw the kind of love , encouragement and advice we all take for granted so often. I wish I could be believe that anything I’ve said here will make you take a brief glance at yourself or your behavior, or make you examine your preconceived notions about people. But I can’t. :mad: ---
