# Dear Miss Ogynist...Miss Andryst...Miss Anthrope...Miss thang... ahem. Dear catsix,

I would like to offer the self-appointed liberated feminist spokesperson of the SDMB an opportunity to answer the question you twice ignored in the [pregnant woman courtesy thread](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=383239) Of course, I needn’t offer; we are all (painfully) aware that you are quite capable of taking the hot seat yourself.
I am in complete agreement with those who have called you a self-hating misogynist in the past; but I would like to add misandryst as well. Actually, I am not quite sure who you hate more: men or women; or is it just polite society in general that irks you?
Your hyper-defensive responses in that thread were uncalled for and have helped muddy the only recently cleared lines of communication between modern men and women. You have frequently abused your super-powers of perceived inequality and injustices to slant a thread to your rather hyperdefensive point of view. And just in case your rant be obscured by the boos of your fellow travelers the next time you verbally thrash a gentleman who extends you a common courtesy: by all means, turn loose the feminist vitriol here.
**catsix** , what would be your reaction to a polite woman of your approximate age and physical ability opening a door for you? Are all social niceties aimed in your direction unappreciated or just those from men?

You _have_ held a door for her or offered her a chair?
I’ve never noticed **catsix** saying anything sexist against men; in fact, she usually goes out of her way to state that they’re mischaracterized by our society as bumbling idiots.
Some people see the niceties (said holding of chair or door) as an implied insult. “Let me do that for you, little lady.” As if it’s a weakness or something. And a lot of men pick up on that and just don’t want to bother because they don’t want it thrown back in their faces. Personally, I think it’s a shame as common courtesy is all too lacking from both genders.

And now that I bother to read the thread, I see that yes, that is in fact the problem. Insult is taken where none is meant. Having a door held for you doesn’t imply you’re a weakling or incompetent, it’s just polite. She does this from time to time, we all roll our eyes and move on now. In case you haven’t noticed, she also doesn’t like pregnant women, small children or coworkers. You’ll get used to it. Welcome to the boards.

Could be, but I have been lurking long enough to know that **lieu** is easily offended, **Evil Captor** likes to be dominated, Both **Master Wang-ka** and **Scylla** lead incredibly mundane lives, **Skald** is writing a book about plagarism, and 3. **Opal** is an uncoordinated technophobe.
And **catsix** stole a perfectly reasonable thread from a pregnant lady in order to grandstand and promote her feminist POV again.

I’m not sure you could really call **catsix** a feminist in the traditional sense at all. She will generally side with men more often than not, depending on the subject of course.
I like her a LOT, but then I’m just another chain yanker here.
Cat, if you ever come through Albuquerque, I know some great seedy dives where we could have some drinks, kick some ass, and not even get thrown out.

**catsix** isn’t particularly misogynist or misandryst. She has a chip on her shoulder like that old song by Suicidal Tendencies. Just leave me alone, I’ll figure it out myself! NOBODY is qualified to give her advice or help. And if they do offer help, it isn’t because they’re _actually_ trying to help. They’re insulting her, saying that they are better than her. What a sad, mean, lonely way to go thru life.

**catsix** is not a feminist in the traditional use of the word.
She is, however, an aggresive egalitarian: she believes, I think, that men and women should be treated precisely equally. Any attempt by women to portray themselves as victims, in any scenario, will likely lead to her quick condemnation; she cannot stand it when women say or do anything to cast themselves or women in general as victimized or deserving of any standard of judgement that would be different from that applied to a man.
Unfortunately, she’s rude when she identifies and rejects such attempts, even if they were motivated by kindness.

When someone treats me in a manner that I find rude, I won’t bother to give them any courtesy or respect in return. I’m not worried about what they think of me. When someone actually treats me in a polite, respectful manner, such as **Scumpup** , I find that they don’t have reason to call me rude. Any time you’d like to have a couple of beers, **Scumpup**.
