Just to add a little background, I believe coalition forces routinely fire artillery over the border at suspected Taliban targets, and Pakistan does not have a problem with it, whereas ground forces and manned aircraft are regarded as a no-no.
Essentially, the whole of south-eastern Afghanistan and North-West Pakistan are a single theatre of operations, with the Taliban ranging around at will and fighting both Pakistani and Coalition depending on where they are, but with political considerations preventing similar freedom of movement on the part of Pakistani/Coalition forces.
Plus, obviously, there is considerable uncertainty as to who some of the Afghan and Pakistani forces/officals feel loyalty to, and how much they can be trusted.
The bottom line is that the Pakistani government probably doesn’t care that much since they have made plenty of similar errors themselves and the victims were unlikely to be loyal governemnt supporters, but it certainly isn’t going to help defeat the local Islamists. Not quite as embarrassing as that incident during the Balkan campaign when a cruise missile hit the capital of Bulgaria, but still quite a cock-up.
