There is definitely some research being done trying to understand cognitive differences between certain populations, even some looking at evolution having occurred in historical times. Very preliminary, though, and not at all a consensus having been formed. ---

Regardless, people don’t bristle and stonewall at the idea of genetic differentiation, they react to the idea that differentiation necessarily results in the superiority of one race over another. The existence of things like the National Genographic Project, a well funded and publicized study, show that the topic is hardly forbidden. What is frowned upon is interpreting the results of those studies to show that certain races are just ‘better’ than others. I don’t know of any serious scientists who deny that there are genetic differences between the human races. The problem with people like the OP is that they hold the common misconception that selection pressure results in the creation of an idealized form over time, and that therefore Caucasians are ‘more evolved’ than other races. The problem is that there is no such thing as ‘more evolved’ - the process of evolution by natural selection does not drive a species towards a single idealized form, it just equips it for life in whatever habitat it happens to be in at this time. Anyone who has studied any kind of genetics should know that adaptive divergence over space and time tells us nothing about the relative worth of different groups, it just tells us about the ability of subgroups to deal with the environment that they live in. ---
