[This incident](http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/four-muslim-women-punched-in-the-face-in-islamophobia-attacks-near-uts-ultimo-20170511-gw2pvy.html) from about two weeks ago is also pretty violent, and pretty fresh. But hey, they’re not dead so it probably doesn’t count. And I know that I would just LOVE adding ‘being randomly punched in the face by a stranger’ to the list of things I needed to worry about as I walked down the street of a morning minding my own business. ---

I think we can all agree that both murder and faking a hate crime are wrong? As in, the existence of one doesn’t negate the existence/relevance of the other? ---

You can’t spend a year making up stories about how all liberals are apologists for Islam and refuse to admit that Muslims are all evil terrorists - and then try to pretend that a guy who was attacking Muslims was a liberal. We can’t stop the right from making stuff up. But we will point out when the stuff the right makes up on Tuesday contradicts the stuff they made up on Monday. That _“We’ve always been at war with Eastasia”_ nonsense doesn’t work on us. ---

We can be against the Muslims who commit acts of terrorism and simultaneously support the Muslims who are victims of hate crimes. There’s no reason to try to have one principle that applies to all Muslims. And we can oppose both hate crimes and false accusations of hate crimes. Just like we can oppose both rape and false accusations of rape. ---
