Debate about the terms used in the abortion discussion

No. A fetus is not currently defined as a person in the US (see my wikipedia link, above). That’s the point.

However, one can easily imagine a ruling by the SCOTUS making it so.

Chronos…this was shaping up to be an outstanding analysis…a decent, well-conceive and well-executed discourse on the subject.

Right up until that last paragraph.

I can tell you that there are many people…I am one…who see China’s attempts at population control to be not only well-intentioned, but something that ought to be supported and encouraged on a worldwide basis.

We humans have simply got to get a handle on our sick population growth.

I most assuredly do not see China’s moves in this area as abhorrent…and I am a genuine pro-choicer!

Fact is, I find them laudable.

Finally we have an area of complete agreement.

With the court we currently have…that may well be our future.

Too bad that, in my opinion. There are some very sick pups on that court.

But it may well be our future.

I still can’t figure out why we need to take in a million immigrants a year most who will have children. It is kind of hard to get a handle on our population growth when we are contributing to it.

I don’t know what the answer is but the government thinks abortion will lower it. It does but not enough.

I heard a young pregnant woman say that the government will give me all I need to raise my baby. That is in poverty and with just the bare essentials. She was most likely raised in a project herself and does not know any better.

It is sad.

No, I’m saying that a lot of people call themselves Pro-Life who aren’t.

So, does a Chinese woman have the right to choose or not? It’s not exactly a “choice” unless both options are on the table.

Not quite. An abortion can be a GOOD thing.
Say there’s a etopic pregnancy or the baby’s died in utereo, or has a profound birth defect that means that the only thing keeping them from dying is the life support system of the mom.
By profound I mean conditions such as anacephely, hydranencephely, and severe or profound holoproscencephy. In other words conditions where the baby is very highly likely to die at birth or within six months. There are STILL birth defects where the prognosis is extremely dire. Sometimes in cases like those, an abortion is equalivant to turning a life support system off.
