> [@Did Obama add 6 trillion to the deficit?](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/did-obama-add-6-trillion-to-the-deficit/610266/58): > > My opinion has always been that there’s ample blame to spread around that entire fraternity of imbeciles in Washington, both sides of the aisle. The Republicans of recent vintage only know how to talk about fiscal responsibility. As a practical matter, they haven’t yet been formally introduced. I give the Dems credit for at least doing what they said they’d do. However much I disagree with them, at least it isn’t a stealth strategy. But both have their own idiotic pain-free solutions to the debt problem, and neither seem to be able to restrain themselves from spending more dough in the meantime, all the while shouting at each other in their dysfunctional debating society in D.C. over how evil the other guys are. the problem is the sequester has blocked access to the wasteful spending that needs to be addressed, such as the social spending and leave only the military and one other area to draw the 85 billion from, that is not where the majority of the money went over the last four years. Senator Coburn has found 364.5 billion in duplicate spending but the liberals refuse to budge on those areas. So we fund site seeing of wineries and the like, while asking military to cut 20+% of their income, and we can send money overseas to other nations, and do research on Duck reproduction, important things like that. --- _[View the full topic](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/debt-amounts-and-other-stuff/653680)._
