At my new warehouse job you have to wear work shoes of some kind- something with a thick sole and a little heel, so I wore my steel-toed boots. Big mistake. They’re absolutely destroying my feet. When I took them after I got home, one of my socks was half-covered in blood. It’s funny because my feet don’t really hurt when I’m working. I can’t get new shoes until at least my first paycheck. I’ll just have to bring a spare set of shoes with me to work and keep them in my locker. ---

I’m turning into a crotchety young person. It seems every thread I read on the SDMB lately is someone bitching about some sort of modern invention/convenience that they don’t understand. It’s driving me nuts! I love this place for the intelligent posters and vast treasure of knowledge, but holy hell, I feel like I’m in the land of old technophobes that praise the invention of the vinyl record player but freak the fuck out when confronted with an iPod. I think it’s funny in a way too. I learned how to use computers the way a lot of those posters learned how to fix their cars - by tinkering and trial and error. I wasn’t born with an innate sense of technology, I simply wasn’t afraid to break it. ---

Don’t fucking come to work sick. A cold is one thing, but if you feel feverish, STAY HOME! My file clerk/secretary had been coughing a deep, productive cough all day, into her HANDS, and then bringing things into me for review, etc. Now I’m sick, 4 days before the holiday, and I have three days of parties and housework to get through. And then holiday itself, to say nothing of the presents that need to get wrapped, the liquor I would have liked to drink, late nights, etc. Fuck You. ---

Yes - but she keeps pissing them away by taking time off for her “personal emergencies” which are mostly bullshit that she could deal with on her non-work time (like being sad over the latest douchebag who broke up with her, or to console her alcoholic mother who’s been torturing her for years). And my office manager is the type to get antibiotics for her viral infections, and says “they’re not sick, it’s just a cold” :smack: ---

Another snobby musician rant: I brought my ukulele to school and carefully taught my class to sing “Little Drummer Boy.” We were quite good at it. then, at today’s presentation when we sang it, another teacher from the school stood with us and sang it really badly. She was in tune but didn’t come in at the right time (kept coming in early.) And of course, she sang so loudly that the rest of the class followed her instead of me, and the song was ruined. Good news, though: I doubt anyone besides me cared. ---

Can I be done with the clinic now? I swear the receptionists are getting used to me knitting in the waiting room and maybe wondering why I like hanging out and exercising my immune system. Ok, one was an appointment that’s been booked for months that just happens to be in the same building with a shared waiting room but I’ve had to bring in two people for urgent care and been there 3 times in as many weeks. It’s a nice enough waiting room as they go but I can only hope misters ‘I’m here being tested for strep’ and ‘I’m here for mono’ along with the many very ill coughing children haven’t given me anything on this latest visit. Especially since I plan to be visiting people soon and do not want to be ill doing so.
