I’m sort of bored of media player. Are there any alternatives that have snazzy visualisations to go with the music and don’t hassle you when adding files and creating play lists?

I’ve always liked winamp. It easily adds music to your library, and the playlist being seperated from the browser makes it very easy to make on the go play lists. Be careful when you install because it wants to add a lot of crap you don’t need.

Check out [VLC](http://www.videolan.org/). I don’t use the vizualizations or playlists, though I know it does have them. For me, the upside is that it will play darn near any audio or video file you are likely to come across, no matter the format.

It will also play disc images directly, without mounting them. This is a great feature in my opinion.
