The TCM doc **AuntiePam** referenced upthread also mentioned director Bob Clark’s other holiday-themed work, “Black Christmas.” I know I was surprised to find that the Bob Clark who directed “A Christmas Story” and the Bob Clark who wrote and directed “Porky’s” were the same Bob Clark (who passed away in 2007). However, I watched part of “Porky’s” for the first time in many years a while back, and it addresses some pretty serious themes. Oh, and for my “A Christmas Story” quote, it’s not a quote – just Ralphie’s casual chewing tobacco spit and then immediate leveling of the official Red Ryder carbine-action, two hundred shot Range Model air rifle at Black Bart and his gang during Ralphie’s fugue state – cracks me up every time. ---

I have since heard of people under extreme duress speaking in strange tongues. I became conscious that a steady torrent of obscenities and swearing of all kinds was pouring out of me as I screamed. Meatloaf, smeatloaf, double-beatloaf. I hate meatloaf. With as much dignity as he could muster, the Old Man gathered up the sad remains of his shattered major award. Later that night, alone in the backyard, he buried it next to the garage. Now I could never be sure, but I thought that I heard the sound of “Taps” being played, gently. ---

I’ve never seen this movie advertised for television here in Canada. And, frankly I’ve never heard of anyone talk about it either. I am only aware of this movie from, what 6 or 7 years registered here. I can’t believe I’m the only one (or only Canadian at least) who has never been exposed to this movie. ---
