As I’ve noted before, insurance premiums in the UK seem to be much lower than in the US.

One suspects that there is an under-the-table unspoken agreement in the US between mortgage lenders and insurance companies which between them have the consumer over a barrel.

Not, I suspect, for vehicles. A young (under 25), newly qualified driver will pay between £1,200 and £2,500 annually, depending on the car and their postcode. And that’s after taking a test that lasts 45 minutes on congested streets.
