I should probably amend to “pretty much pure umami” with a hint of salt.

My deep dark confession is the sheer volume of food I can consume. I am tempted to start a thread asking how much a normal person eats of certain foods.

> Generic supermarket maple syrup, containing 0% actual maple, tastes exactly the same as the real stuff, and is much cheaper.

I didn’t know the difference when I was a kid because my parents were frugal and we only had the “pancake syrup” kind. Then I moved up here and had the real stuff. They each have their charms but there is a significant difference.

Yes

> I would rather have a breakfast from McDonald’s than anyone’s home cooking (including my mom’s, which used to be pretty darned good). For that matter, the thought of “a home cooked meal”, regardless of whose home and who the cook is, is not appealing to me at all. The social aspect - absolutely- but I really don’t enjoy eating other peoples’ cooking.

And yes! I especially would prefer not to eat what someone has just prepared while I sat there. I prefer my meals to come out fully prepared where I couldn’t see it.

You can also buy the orange mac and cheese powder in bulk. Imagine the possibilities.

1. When I make Philly cheese-steaks for guests, I pretentiously use good smoked provolone, or Cooper American cheese. But, I prefer the taste of lowly _Cheese Whiz_ on my own steaks.

2. I follow the _“5-second”_ rule with dropped food. However, I stealthily put the retrieved food on my kid’s plates instead of my own (_hey, what they don’t know…_).

Before my parents passed, I did the same with them (_…no, it was not a factor in their passing_). I did get busted once: I had a little slippage off the platter mishap when I pulled the T-Bones off the family grill one summer. Dad wanted to know why there was dirt and bugs on his steak.

In my defense, when food drops into the the kitty-litter pan, then I adhere to a strict **3** -second rule. Plus, I blow off the litter granules and anything else stuck to the food. I am, after all, a caring father.

1. I believe peanut butter tastes best when you scoop it out from the jar with your middle finger and suck it off. Why dirty a knife? Just don’t let anybody see you do it.

I eat tuna right from the can.

I’m from the Chicago area, and I don’t mind ketchup on a dog sometimes. I like to make a ghetto dog with sandwich bread, 2-3 smokey links, mayo, cheese, ketchup and mustard. Mmmm!

I like sushi of all sorts, but I don’t mind admitting that I really like the junky Americanized ones with deep-fried crab and cream cheese and all that jazz. I wish there was a fast food chain for that sort of Taco Bell sushi!

I also eat the stuff most people pass by. Shrimp tails, gristle, apple cores, kiwi skin. I love to make chicken salad out of poached chicken and I sliver up the chicken skin right with the meat. One day I will figure out how to acquire enough poultry skin to make gribenes and I’ll die a happy woman. Oddly enough, though, I don’t care for most offal. I do like souse and headcheese.

If I’m eating a nice baked potato at home, I like to take the leftover “shell” and fill it with cottage cheese and A-1 steak sauce and eat it like a burrito. 😛 Try it!

I like raw potatoes.

I love Walmart’s Amish potato salad, especially with added chopped celery and radish. The other types they sell suck.

After reading a review, I have been sampling Walmart’s Great Value ice creams. Haven’t had a bad one yet. The butter pecan was rated 2nd behind Haagen Daz in one test. Their Rocky Road is my favorite, just the right amount of marshmallow cream (I don’t like real marshmallows in mine). The chocolate covered nuts are huge.

You guys are both more brave than I. I actually learned to make it without the milk when yeah, my dad taught me to make it when I was a kid. One of my girlfriends was horrified when she found out, and made me read the instructions on the side of the box for the first time.

Now, I splash about a tablespoon of milk into it.

I enjoy my gourmet sandwich made on fresh-baked multi-seed bread with deli-sliced organic meats and cheeses. Please make sure the mayo is of high quality and add a slice of heirloom tomato and a large leaf of hydroponic lettuce or perhaps some baby spinach. Yum… Just about perfect…

Now all I need is some _Bugles_.

Romaine is a _bit_ better nutritionally. But not as much as some would have you believe:
