I heard that deep throat was Pat Buchanon (sp?).
That crazy racist…
Do you think he thought of the name “deep throat” before the term was coined as a sexual act?
Dostromin, “Deep Throat” was chosen specifically because there was a porn movie by that name that was popular at the time.
Guinastasia, the link above shows that the University of Texas now has that information in their archives. The article did not discuss any specifics of how the information is being safeguarded, or how it will be monitored beyond Woodward and Bernstein if necessary, but it does say those plans are in place. So the mystery will be revealed eventually. We just have to kill all the suspects until we get the right one.*
[sub]*No, that’s not serious. Sheesh.[/sub]
My question: Why doesn’t Deep Throat reveal his identity himself? He could probably make a huge amount of money if he wanted to as well as bask in the glory of being hailed as an American hero. Obviously at the time he was afraid of possible consequences for his career but he is probably retired and in any case there is very little anyone is going to do to him now.
I was an extra in Dick in the scene on the mall where the two girls run around screaming about how they hate Dick just as the marching band stops playing. It was over ninety degrees that day. Kirsten Dunst’s comment was “It sure was hot in the sixties!” :smack:
Given the current political climate, I think a “hero’s welcome” is the last thing Deep Throat would recieve.
That aside, they may not want the spotlight thrust upon them, which is entirely in their rights.
Plus, Rush/O’Reilly/Hannity/Oliver North and the rest of the right wing of the Republican party would absolutley vilify him. It would make what all of them have said about Clinton seem like nursery rhymes.
Payton, the “goofy right” in the Republican Party would praise the man that brought Nixon down, not be angry at him. During his term as President, Nixon did quite a few things (such as wage and price controls, and opening diplomatic relationships with China) that angred the far right. That’s why the likes of Pat Bucannon have been suggested as responsible.
Yes, there are very few die-hard supporters of Nixon even in the GOP so Deep Throat would get a largely positive reception if he revealed himself. You would think he would like to receive credit for what he did during his lifetime but I suppose he may be the type of person who doesn’t like publicity.
I’ve always amused myself with the notion that Deep Throat was Alexander Haig, drunk on access to power, and showing early signs of his mental instability.
