You had me worried right up until you stopped. I wish you’d said something about the blisters. That gets nasty. I had vaseline with me, though. I was looking for you at the awards ceremony wanting to introduce you to the Mrs. and the little one who were waiting at the finish line for my triumphant arrival. I felt lousy for the first two miles, feeling like a poptart soaked in beer, but then I started to hit my stride. I found the fact that you were talking while I was attempting to gasp my way to the top of a hill somewhat disquieting. I still remember the comment “You must be in excellent condition to keep up with a young guy like me this far.” Well, it’s good to know the blister dust works. I’ll have to get some more. Well met, and well done. Next year? Ha! There’s plenty more races right around the corner. ---

“I admit your superiority”. Done this day, March 16, 2002, by my hand, etc. etc. Good to get that out of the way. Now back to watching the basketball playoffs. Just hope I don’t drop any of the pretzels on the couch. ---

Yeah, I had a blast, **RTF** , but when I woke up this morning, I found out exactly how bad it was. The one blister that had burst sealed itself over last night and swelled up. I couldn’t flex my big toe at all. _TMI_ When I burst it, it sprayed EVERYWHERE. It was pretty gross. But now it feels better. I can actually walk now. 🙂 Still, I’d do it again, in a heartbeat. I’ll keep training for the next one, so maybe I can finish. ---

I did 2:04:04, and after the first two miles I felt really good. I did it nice and easy and probably could have gone another 5-6 miles at the pace, or chopped 15-20 minutes off my time if I had pushed. I ran two miles today, real slow, just to work the that little stiffness out of my legs and get the blood flowing. Airman Doors was with me through 8 miles and seemed to be doing fine until suddenly succumbing to his injuries. If I understand his earlier post, he didn’t finish, but got taken back on the “Struggler’s Bus” (which I always thought was a great name for a rock band.)
