> That 's just dopey. I should bitchslap you with a banana for trying to pawn that shit. In what fucking tome is that rule written? Maybe kindergarten sarcasm is like that, but as a level 50 sarcasm-user, licensed to practice the art in all 50 states, I tell you that the best sarcasm is _just barely_ plausible.
>
> By definition, it’s good stuff when you whoosh the morons.

This is the last time I’ll point out one of **Scylla’s** clues to you guys. He’s messing with you.

Actually, thats rather a striking concept friend **Scylla** is offering. A droll irony in Tom DeLay (R-Undead)? Whodathunkit? It would reveal aspects of his character hitherto unimagined! Might compassion, empathy and tolerance also lurk behind the facade of a crude and vicious dimwit?

It seems that only our own **Scylla** , newly reborn independent thinker and not-a-Bush-apologist-merely-sworn-enemy-of-slanderous-exaggeration…only he has the insight to recognize the puckish humor, the twinkle in his gimlet eye. This is an invaluable capacity, not widely shared.

I look forward to being alerted to further examples of Marse Tom’s Swiftian wit. Which I would surely otherwise have missed.

 Oh my God! Scylla ate Rush Limbaugh in a desperate attempt to gain his powers!?!

Don’t tell me that I’m the only one who came to that conclusion.

[A fuller account from the Moonie Times](http://www.washtimes.com/national/20050914-120153-3878r.htm) should help lay to rest the desperate hope the most easily fooled here have, that he was simply joking:

> [@](#):
>
> Mr. DeLay was defending Republicans’ choice to borrow money and add to this year’s expected $331 billion deficit to pay for Hurricane Katrina relief. Some Republicans have said Congress should make cuts in other areas, but Mr. DeLay said that doesn’t seem possible.
>
> ```
> "My answer to those that want to offset the spending is sure, bring me the offsets, I'll be glad to do it. But nobody has been able to come up with any yet," the Texas Republican told reporters at his weekly briefing.
>
> Asked if that meant the government was running at peak efficiency, Mr. DeLay said, "Yes, after 11 years of Republican majority we've pared it down pretty good."
>
> ```
>
> …
> But Mr. DeLay said those projects are “important infrastructure” and eliminating them could undermine the economy as Congress tries to offer hurricane relief.
>
> ```
> "It is right to borrow to pay for it," he said. "But it is not right to attack the very economy that will pay for it."
>
> ```
>
> …
> Mr. DeLay said the budget this year was pared down and 100 programs or offices were eliminated in this year’s spending bills. “We have been doing that for 11 years,” he said. He said it’s an “ongoing process” that will be more complete after this year’s budget process, which calls for cuts to Medicaid and other entitlement programs.

Let up a little, **Elvis**. There are certain rules of tact and politeness to be obeyed here. If you’re playing baseball against little kids, you’re obligated to use a wiffle ball and a plastic bat, rather than a real ball and wooden bat. Similarly if you’re debating against a Republican, it’s only common courtesy to leave off the in-depth citations that prove your side correct and instead debate with only petty insults; anything else simply wouldn’t be fair.
