> I can’t imagine that Dobson and other…interested parties…would be pleased with a possible “closet case” acting as the House Majority Leader.

It promises to be a fun bit of theatre no matter what. Either Dreier is promoted and outed simultaneously, the RR either has fits or displays their hypocrisy, while the non-RR GOP tells us it demonstrates their tolerance and inclusiveness; or Hastert backs down in another display of can’t-shoot-straight. We’ll find out how much the RR really controls the party anyway, now that Dreier’s name is out there.

Look, **Otto** …I really don’t think I deserve this type of response; we’ve gotten along well on other threads and gaming activities…even my son learned something from you. If anything, I am guilty of trying to do work and SD at the same time. I don’t have a pad of paper in the car to write names down of every issue at hand. That’s my fault. I only recalled the main parts. DeLay indicted. Prosecutor is liberal (or Democrat as **TYM** pointed out). Prosecutor making a name for himself. Judges have thrown out similar indictments before. End of story. Just because I don’t celebrate with jubilation like others here doesn’t mean I should get the pile-on. James Earl Jones (the actor)…I know; Ronnie Earle (who’s name was only mentioned once and then relabeled as “Prosecutor”)…I know not. Thanks for the Wikilink, BTW. We’ll see how this plays out. I’m not rooting for or against DeLay or Earle for that matter, I just want to see justice with fair temprament from fellow Dopers…I can dream…can’t I?

That doesn’t mean anything. I’ve been under investigation for insider trading before, you’d be amazed how easy it is to get the regulatory people after you for a completely innocent transaction. And you’d also be surprised how easy it is to do something inappropriate without knowing it, a lot of the regulations out there are arcane and obscure.

He instructed his trustees to sell all the stocks in his “blind trust” (that only contained stock for the family owned hospital company) to the tune of $2- $6 million.
[from here](http://news.yahoo.com/s/huffpost/007990;_ylt=AjqDNN.aSsGdAEAXK8WzHpwDW7oF;_ylu=X3oDMTBiMW04NW9mBHNlYwMlJVRPUCUl)

> A new analysis by my Foundation for Taxpayer and Consumer Rights has found that Senator Frist made between between $2 and $6 million by selling his HCA holdings just before stocks plummeted in the face of a bad earnings report. In addition, overly rosy earnings projections made by HCA executives just as Frist and HCA insiders were disposing of the stock en masse, point to a coverup by insiders intent on keeping stock prices high until a disappointing earnings report surfaced.
>
> Frist trust agreements made public today by [Consumerwatchdog.org](http://Consumerwatchdog.org) also show that since the founding of his trust, Senator Frist directed trustees not to sell his HCA stock. Each of the Senator’s trust agreements acknowledged their high concentration in HCA stock, and specifically relieved trustees ‘from any obligation the Trustee might otherwise have to diversify the investments.’ In other words, this was a seeing-eye trust, not a blind trust.

Well, here’s some more information for this supposedly partisan hack. Here’s the list of his previous prosecutions.

> [@](#):
>
> U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Texas, 1994: Acquitted of official misconduct and records tampering after Earle dropped the case during the trial.
>
> Former state Rep. Betty Denton, D-Waco, 1995: Sentenced to six months probation and fined $2,000 for listing false loans and contributions on campaign finance reports.
>
> Former state Rep. Lane Denton, D-Waco, 1995: Sentenced to 60 days in work-release program and six years probation, fined $6,000 and ordered to pay more than $67,000 restitution after being convicted of theft and misapplication of fiduciary property for funneling money from the Department of Public Safety Officers Association to a Denton company.
>
> House Speaker Gib Lewis, D-Fort Worth, 1992: In plea bargain, Earle dropped more serious charges when Lewis pleaded no contest to failing to disclose a business investment. Lewis was fined $2,000, and the judge said he took into consideration that Lewis was retiring from public office.
>
> Attorney General Jim Mattox, Democrat, 1985: Acquitted on felony bribery charges. Won re-election.
>
> State Rep. Mike Martin, R-Longview, 1982: Pleaded guilty to perjury after lying about having himself shot to gain publicity. Did not run for re-election.
>
> State Treasurer Warren Harding, Democrat, 1982: Pleaded no contest to official misconduct and dropped re-election bid.
>
> Texas Supreme Court Justice Don Yarbrough, Democrat, 1978: Sentenced to five years for lying to a grand jury and forgery. Gave up seat.

Man, why won’t that fucker back off the Republicans?!

Try more like $156,600/year - just $400 a year less than Rove or WHITE HOUSE Chief of Staff, Andrew Card (in 2004). They’re just a bit more now, at $161K, getting raises this year. Average House CoS salaries are in the $80s and $100K in the Senate, according to the Career Services Center at The Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies, a division of Johns Hopkins University.

[The list goes on](http://www.salon.com/politics/war_room/):

> [@](#):
>
> **Jack Abramoff** : The Republican super-lobbyist, known to have bragged about his contacts with Karl Rove, was indicted in Florida last month along with his business partner on wire fraud and conspiracy fraud charges related to their purchase of a fleet of gambling boats. This week, three men were arrested – including two who received payments from Abramoff’s business partner – in the Mafia-style killing of the man from whom Abramoff and his partner purchased the gambling boats.
>
> **David Safavian** : The president’s chief procurement officer stepped down two weeks ago and was arrested last week on charges of lying to investigators and obstructing a separate federal investigation into Abramoff’s dealings in Washington. Some Republicans who received campaign contributions from Safavian are divesting themselves of his money now.
>
> **Timothy Flanigan** : The president’s nominee to serve as deputy attorney general has announced that he will have to recuse himself from the Abramoff investigation if he is confirmed because he hired Abramoff to help the company where he works – scandal-ridden Tyco International Ltd. – lobby DeLay and Rove on tax issues.
>
> **Michael Brown** : The president’s FEMA director resigned earlier this month amid complaints about his handling of Hurricane Katrina and charges that he and other FEMA officials got their jobs based on political connections and cronyism rather than competence or qualifications.
>
> **Bob Taft** : The Republican governor of Ohio pleaded guilty last month to criminal charges based on his failure to report gifts as required by state law, among them golfing trips paid for by Tom Noe, a major Republican fundraiser who is the subject of his own scandal regarding the state’s investment in $50 million in rare coins, some of which have mysteriously gone missing.
>
> **Randy “Duke” Cunningham** : A federal grand jury in San Diego is investigating allegations that the veteran Republican congressman received financial favors from a defense contractor who allegedly bought Cunningham’s house at an inflated price and let him live for free on the contractor’s 42-foot yacht.

Do you think the vast majority or Republican supporters even watch the news? Much less a news program that would report any of this? They’ll throw “the Dems are trying to remove the bible and replace it with gay marriage” at 'em and they’ll swallow it whole.

Actually, Ronny Earle has prosecuted way more Democrats than Republicans. But that little inconvenient fact has not prevented Tom DeLay (R - Creepy) from referring to Earle as a “partisan fanatic”. Clearly, reality and Tom Delay are not on speaking terms.

Its sad! Even the news reports that mention that fact still manage to somehow slip in a thinly veiled accusation that it is a partisan attack.

If I were the DA, when asked if indicting Delay was because of a personal grude, I’d be tempted to respond:
