Democratic lawmakers in Maryland: You suck!

Lissa, in the immortaql words of the Partridge Family I think I love you. Great post. Wish I had typed it.

Hey Frank, suck on this, baby. I wish you were in Md. too so you could come to a dopefest and then refuse to shake my hand and I could laugh and laugh and laugh at your pathetic little gesture of defiance. Then I’d just get right on with my life, giving you all the attention you so richly deserve.

Um, Lissa, that IS how things work. If you(as a party) want to control those things, then present a compelling vision to the nation such that your candidates are elected so that you do. If Kerry was President and the Republican held Senate was opposing his nominations, the howls of outrage here would be non stop about the will of the people etc…(as you did note).

Yes but the question is, what exactly is a civil rights issue? Therein lies the rub, every special interest group claims that it’s goals represent a civil right, and thus it deserves special treatment. Weather it actually is or not is a matter for the courts to decide.

And if that one party were the Democrats, would you still be holding forth on how right and proper this is when the Republicans used some procedural trick to derail a bill allowing same sex marriage? The pendulum swings, and when one party is out of power, they need to be looking at the best way to get back into power, not attempting to further marginalize themselves by becoming more and more erratic and extreme. I’d like there to be a Democratic party as a realistic alternative to the Republicans in the years to come. Adopting the Democratic tactic of screaming “We’re right and you sheeple are too damn stupid to know it, so vote for us” does not strike me as an avenue that will help this come to pass.

I hate hyper liberals you ignorant cunt rag. They are the ones hijacking a party that used to provide a much needed common sense voice of compassion into a frightening leach on America. More taxes! More entitlements!, More government! More group think! More! More! More! If I wanted to live in a socialist country, I’d emigrate to Europe. You say I should be concerned with the Republicans? Let them worry about their own house. Mine is burning down around my ears, forgive me if that’s where my attention is focused.

Since he won’t give you the condensed version of why, I will. He’s a registered Democrat so that he can participate in the Democratic primaries at home, as you can only participate in the primaries of the party with which you are registered. Republicans can’t win anyway, so this way he gets to help choose which Dem will get the win.

That’s a part of it. Sadly it’s becoming a bigger and bigger part of it as the party moves more and more towards the lunatic fringe. The rest of it is that I basically support a lot of the solid, core Democratic positions on issues, but cringe at how they’ve been perverted by extremists.

And you believe that heaping abuse and invective on the fellow members of your party will arrest this (alleged) leftward trend. Well, let’s see how that works out for you.

Twitch Did you just call me a Republican? Did you miss where I said that I was a Democrat in a red state (Ohio). Fuck, I grew up in New Jersey and went to college in New York. That enough Dem street cred for you or do I have to get an abortion?*

Rudy Guiliani, Christie Todd Whitman, Olympia Snow, the Gubvantor, George Pataki. What do I win?
*Sacrasm. I’d expect you to get it, but you have proven yourself a total dolt.

No. It was an observation inspired by your comment.

A shiny gold star to wear on your forehead. Good examples, all, though I don’t know that I agree with Pataki being on the list.

Ever heard of the term DINO and RINO? (Democrat Or Republican) In Name Only. If I alienate you with my beliefs, then we likely never had anything in common to begin with and thus belonging in the same party would be an exercise in futility.

Look, people are free to register as whatever politicial party they want to. But if your political viewpoints are diametrically opposed to what most of your party stands for you’re going to have a lot of people scratching their heads.

I honestly don’t give a shit if I “alienate” a Zell Miller Democrat. They weren’t doing anything for my cause anyway.

If I did show up to any Republican meetings, I’d gleefully point out that the first Republican President (Abraham Lincoln) expanded civil rights. So in accordance with that legacy we should legalize gay marriage and marijuana. I’d love to see the looks on their faces. I’d probably be lynched.

Fuck you, fuck you, clusterfuck you with a rusty fucking pogo stick.

Get it through your goddamn fucking pointy skull that civil rights are not about “special treatment.” Spare us that “special treatment” bullshit, rhetoric that’s right out of the radical right dumbfuck songbook.

Wow. Are you stupid or what? Why don’t you do this. Why don’t you go back, reread this thread for content (maybe tie your knee to a cinderblock to prevent cranial trauma), and then come back and try again. Maybe then you can make an intelegent comment on what I’ve actually posted.

But he has a card that says he’s a Democrat.

Sometimes the jokes just write themselves…

I’ve read the thread, thanks. Read it more than once in fact. Your thread is about a ridiculously stupid bit of political minutae, a politician acting within the letter and as far as I’m concerned the spirit of the rules to block a move from another politician who was also acting within the letter and the spirit of the rules. The end result being a temporary block to a vile and disgusting amendment to the Maryland constitution.

And then you used the vile and disgusting rhetoric of the fanatical right wing dubmfucks and got mad at me for calling you on it. And fuck you again for doing it.

Enlighten us, Weirddave, in what way should the Democratic Party be an alternative to the GOP? What policies should we advocate that will distinguish us from the Republicans?

Are we living in the same country? Did you miss the last 70 years or so?

All these things you complain about regarding the Democratic Party—taxes, government intervention in the economy, welfare and other benefit schemes—are the things that made the twentieth century Democratic Party what it was. It was precisely this refusal to accept the social Darwinist world of complete laissez faire that made the Democrats a worthy alternative to the Republicans in the era of the New Deal and after.

You constant attempts to portray the Party and its supporters as some sort of lunatic leftist fringe suggest that you inhabit some sort of Bizarro America. The Democratic Party is, right now, about as conservative as it has been (especially on economic issues) at any time since before FDR. Even under Clinton, the “liberal” bogeyman of conservatives and alleged moderates, the Democrats caved in to a whole bunch of Republican demands about cutting back social programs, reducing taxes, and generally letting the poor members of society fend for themselves. And over the past five years, many powerful Democrats have fallen all over themselves to bow to one conservative demand after another, from tax cuts to the Patriot Act to slash-and-burn social policy.

You are, of course, perfectly entitled to your opinion about what is and is not good policy for America. But don’t pretend that a demonstrated concern for helping those left behind constitutes some abrogation of the Democratic Party’s basic raison d’etre, and don’t try, in the face of all evidence to the contrary, to paint the current Democrats as some radical leftist organization.

Ohhh, a typo joke. Wow, thats brilliant.

Again, I suggest you reread exactly what it is I have said in this thread. And then feel free to comment on that. Because brother, you’re not reading what I actually wrote. You’re reading what you want to see.

Try again. Quote me. Why don’t you start with my position on gay marriage and go from there?

Hey Dave? Thickwit? I’m not talking about your position on same-sex marriage. I’m talking about your use of the rhetoric of the radical right. I’m talking about how, like the fuckwits who oppose same-sex marriage, you think “civil rights” equals “special treatment.”

Fine, we got beyond my opinion on same sex marriage. That’s progress. Now go reread, again reading for what I actually said, not what you’re assuming I meant, what I posted about special interest groups hijacking the term civil rights as an excuse for special treatment. You quoted the text above, and I’ve handed it to you right here, so if you still don’t get it I don’t know what else to say to make you understand.

For, what, the third time now, this was never about your opinion on same-sex marriage. Funny how you’ve accused me multiple times of misinterpreting you, yet you keep falsely trying to make this about your opinion on SSM.

Eh, fuck it. This thread is completely ridiculous, you’re a fucking moron for being upset about a parliamentary maneuver and this shit is so not worth my time.
