Hicknelooper would have been an easy choice for me two weeks ago. He’s got executive experience. His willingness to reach across the aisle to work on solutions prompted last year’s rumor of a Kasich/Hickenlooper ticket.
Then he went to the Munich Global Security Conference where he had a chance to directly interact with our allies about policy. He’s one of only two declared or potential candidates that took the opportunity. The other was Biden who already had contacts and gave a major speech. That’s just running up the score in my book. 😃

Hickenlooper. Beto was a nice story last year but couldn’t get it done.

Right here. I guffawed reading it because it sounds so slapstick. :D. It would be totally cool if he were a chicken industry pioneer so he could say, “I’m Mr. Hickenlooper, the chicken cooper, and a chicken WILL be in every damn pot…”

This is not an endorsement of Beto, whom I really do not want to run for President. But I will point out that Hickenlooper has never served in Congress. I don’t like governors swanning into Washington thinking it’s just like the old state capital.
So Beto over Hickenlooper.

Not going to try to argue you out of your position, but you’re kind of standing against the tide. Just off the top of my head, here are some governors who swanned (nice word!) into Washington: Bush II, Clinton, Reagan, Carter…both Roosevelts?..Wilson…?

Ideally, we’d have a candidate who’s served both as governor of a state and in one of the houses of Congress. But that’s seldom an option. And a Senator would be better qualified than a Representative.

Kind of surprised to see how fast the bloom has gone off Beto. He was leading ALL candidates in the big poll here a couple months ago. Personally I am not thrilled with either of these guys but went with Hickenlooper based on experience. And beer.

Beto was a great candidate for the position of Texas senator. And he probably still will be, whenever Texas has its next senatorial election, or for Governor. But that doesn’t mean that he’d be a great candidate for President.
