Well I guess we’re at an impasse here then.

I simply do not believe that you’ve never heard of the Democratic Party.

You know that you are in the Elections forum right? How do you expect to keep up with the discussions here if you are totally ignorant about the existence of one of the two major parties in the US?

The question isn’t whether I’ve heard of the Democrat Party. I have. The question was the use of the word “Democratic” as it was used in **iiandyiiii’s** post.

_Big cities happen to be more Democratic, and they happen to have more crime. The shootings don’t happen because cities are Democratic –_

Democracy isn’t practiced solely in big cities. Even rural area’s are known to practice that form of government.

Both of my uses of the word “Democratic” were referring to the political party. This should have been obvious, because it was capitalized. I was not referring to “democracy”, I was referring to the Democratic party, as in “most cities have a higher percentage of voters who support the Democratic party compared to rural areas”.

Now that this has been cleared up, we can probably move on.

Please. Don’t insult everyone’s intelligence like that. The party is called the Democratic Party. Areas that have more Republican representation are called Republican areas. Areas with more Democratic representation are called Democratic areas. Republican and Democratic are both adjectives. Democrat is a noun. Did you ever study basic English grammar in elementary school? Did you get the difference between a noun and an adjective?

But what am I doing, of course you know all of this, and you are just acting ignorant and using the infantile and grammatically incorrect terminology because you think its funny, or you think it pisses liberals off. It also prevents adult conversation from taking place, but then maybe that’s what you want too since you’ve taken the thread away from the original topic.

If you want to participate in adult conversations, then please communicate like an adult. The SDMB is supposed to be better than this childish playground fingers-in-the-ears crap.

By the way **Doorhinge** , the title of this very thread that you are posting in right now uses the word Democratic in the exact same way that **iiandyiiii** used it when you took objection and claimed to be confused by it. The word is used in the very same way, yet you claim never to have heard it before. May I ask how you got into this thread and started posting to it without ever reading the title? Or did I just miss the part where you asked the OP what his title meant? It must have been horribly confusing to you. How did you even know what the thread would be about when the title was using such unfamiliar language?

Is the Election forum the place where you’re not supposed to resort to personal attacks?

I agree with you that the terms Republican and Democratic are both adjectives.

Do you agree with Merriam-Webster that “Democratic” can be used as the adjective form of the political party, as used by me and the title of this thread?

Nothing you quoted is a personal attack. It is a description of what you are doing when you pretend you’ve never heard the word Democratic used as an adjective … when it is used that way in the **title of the thread in which you make the claim.**

You’ve put yourself in a glass house by claiming something that the thread title proves not to be true. I’d watch where you are tossing those stones.

I agree that using an adjective the way you chose to use it was confusing. That Webster guy was supposed to be OK but I heard that Merriam could be a real pain in the butt. 🙂

The word Democratic is, and has always been, an adjective.

When you said it was new to you, the thread itself was already multiple pages long, and it was used the same way in the **TITLE OF THE THREAD!**

Will you please address this point already, or just drop this whole thing.

You’ve used (and quoted) “Democratic” as the adjective form of the political party yourself in prior posts – so no, it’s not believeable that this is “new” to you:

The term “Democratic operative” as used in the OP describes an operative who was a former WH spin doctor/spokesmodel for the Obama administration. What kind of operative? A Democratic operative.

You forgot to add a noun to your use of the adjective. A shortcut perhaps?

(didn’t see **twickster** suggestion until after I had posted.)

Right – an operative for the Democratic party.

There was a noun: cities. It was proper english – “cities are more Democratic”… meaning that cities have more voters who support the Democratic party. Just like “cities are crowded” – “crowded” describes cities.

Since I’ve shown that you’ve used “Democratic” in past threads in the same way as this thread title and my usage, I think we can conclude that this is not in fact “new” to you.
